Discussion

Otto Albers (X) Oct 28, 2010:
The combination of the words endocrine and metabolic is rarely, if ever, used in the English language. The sense implied in the report is that a certain percentage of diagnosis were derived from some sort of any endocrine gland malfunction that resulted in a metabolic disorder.
My translation would be "metabolic diseases", since, unless otherwise specified, most are endocrine-gland malfunction related.
Muriel Vasconcellos Oct 27, 2010:
Clarification I'm referring to the comment "The other two answers are correct too, but you were first." I actually don't think 'endocrine-metabolic' is correct. "My preference" was a polite way of saying that.
Muriel Vasconcellos Oct 27, 2010:
The first two answers are not the same For those who have commented that the two answers are the same, they are not.
philgoddard Oct 27, 2010:
Presumably you've checked out "endocrine (and) metabolic"?

endocrine and metabolic

In English, we often break down medical compounds into two words.

Correction: we SOMETIMES break them into two words. I hadn't seen the answer above when I posted mine. My preference is to create two words that stand alone.

disagree Elizabeth McCullough : In English we usually break up compound medical words into a hyphenated word or two separate words. Also, diacritical marks are not used.
