Here I will write about some techniques that you can use when working with tab-delimited translation memories.

- CafeTran Espresso (obviously)
- A good text editor (Notepad++, BBEdit)
- ModernCSV

What you need:
- CafeTran Espresso (obviously)
- A good text editor (Notepad++, BBEdit)
- ModernCSV

With ModernCSV you can manipulate cells, rows and columns in many ways. You can do case conversions, replace in selected rows or columns, merge, split, move cells, rows, columns etc. etc.

And when you are satisfied with the manipulated first two columns*), copy them to a new text file in your text editor. Then import it into CafeTran Espresso. Don't forget to change the encoding from UTF-16 to UTF-8!

BTW: If your TM contains tab characters, you'll have to replace them with a unique character (like Ŧ first).

*) By copying only the first two columns, you leave all the garbage behind. You only copy the clean text.
