Registration Vs online bidding! Sep 25, 2012

    Hi Colleagues,
Agencies always have a registration page on their webstes; however, they always seek biddings from translators. Dont you think that they waste our time in regisration, what procedures we should take in turn?

I also think that we become a statistic for their sales pitch.

I think that depends on the agency. You are probably right that some agencies will do so, and it is not worthwhile registering with those agencies, whereas other agencies actually look in their database when in need of a translator.

    100 % truth Sep 25, 2012

It is definitely truth - and especially it is valid for the project managers (and senior managers etc), who can demonstrate in such way their activity. By the way - the projection manager has no real meaning to me - it reminds me Latin proverb "divide et impera". I even doubt about the real sense of the translation agencies [CIA etc...] (I think they are only using corruption for gaining the prospective big clients) and they rob us, independent translators, from our hard earned money` simply the... I know why! Nov 8, 2012

As an outsourcer, I know why they do it (I include myself there)! Sometimes it has happened to me that I am in urgent need of help, so I do the lengthy procedure of looking for translators. They must have the right language combination, must specify the correct specialization, country, method of payment, availability, etc., etc. When I get a list of... let's say 10 translators, then I email them telling them about this job. They must have the right language combination, must specify the correct specialization, country, method of payment, availability, etc., etc. When I get a list of... let's say 10 translators, then I email them telling them about this job. I need answers right away, but in most cases, time passes by and -unbelievably as it may sound- they don't answer at all! Or they start telling me things like: "Sorry, but I don't accept payment through PayPal". Eh, so why do you mention it in your profile?? "Oh, it's not updated". And so you miss lots of time with these kinds of things.

On the other hand, when the PM posts the job to everyone... let's say 400 people, he has a bigger chance to get the right translator for the job. Or perhaps he had previously tried to contact you in his database but you weren't available, so when his team of translators is totally unavailable, this could be his last resort.
