After two seasons with the Castrol-backed BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team, 2010 could be the year in which Jari-Matti Latvala breaks out to showcase his exceptional natural talent.
After running in club races and rallies in Finland, Latvala moved to the UK at the age of 17 to start a full-time rallying career. From 2003 to 2006, he competed in a broad range of events – including numerous World Rally Championship outings – in a wealth of Super 1600, Group N and WRC cars as he looked to gain experience.
Full-time WRC ride
An impressive fourth-place in the 2006 season-ending Rally GB with the Stobart VK Ford team prompted a full-time move into the WRC with the outfit in 2007.
Latvala quickly settled into his new role and showed he was happy to mix it at the sharp end by leading in Italy, Finland and Japan, before finishing third in the penultimate event of the year - Rally Ireland.
For 2008 Latvala stepped up to the BP-Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team alongside Mikko Hirvonen, quickly taking a commanding victory in Sweden to make him the youngest driver ever to win a WRC event. Further podiums followed in Mexico, Italy, Turkey, Japan and GB, putting the Finn a strong fourth in the standings at the end of the year.
Highs and lows
As with all forms of motorsport, progress can be peppered with lows as well as highs, and 2009 proved to be a testing experience for Latvala. With only one win in Italy, several retirements and a particularly large crash in Portugal – where Latvala and co-driver Anttila rolled down the side of a 150m hill – the Finnish ace was only able to score 41 points, placing him fourth in the drivers’ standings.
But if past experience is anything to go by, 2010 could well be a different affair, with Latvala keen to keep his exuberance in check and bring the championship back to the Blue Oval.

Comunidad
Formada por personas co-propietarias del proyecto (del terreno y de las casas, no hay propiedad privada), viven juntas (en un mismo espacio, pero en diversas casas de diferentes tamaños), comen juntas (al menos una vez al día), toman juntas decisiones en asamblea (estratégicas y organizativas) y delegan (decisiones operativas), tienen ‘compartires’* y rituales, y hacen un mínimo de trabajo voluntario por la comunidad (Se sugiere: unas 200 h al año, a elegir: 1. Una hora al día - 200 días; 2. 20 horas al mes – 10 meses; 3. 200 horas en eventos). Comparten también parte de la economía.
Algunas reglas comunitarias ya existentes (que se aplican en Artosilla): la comida común es vegetariana, con base vegana, y no se cocina carne ni pescado; no se fuma en espacios cerrados; no entran animales en espacios comunes; preferencia y tendencia hacia productos locales y ecológicos.
* 'Compartir' es un espacio para la gestión emocional del grupo.
Propiedad
En caso de salir de Artosilla, se buscaría la figura legal apropiada (posiblemente cooperativa). Cabe la posibilidad de que haya otros co-propietarios externos (inversores), siempre en un porcentaje inferior a los comuneros. Todos los taldeanos serán copropietarios y para ello deben hacer una inversión inicial de 5.000 euros*.

Trabajo
Puede ser interno o externo. En ambos casos, el trabajo productivo deberá generar un excedente con el que cubrir otros trabajos internos económicamente no productivos, pero importantes para la comunidad (mantenimiento, huertas, etc.).
Todas las personas ponen una cantidad mínima de dinero en un fondo comunitario (actualmente: 200 euros, modificable según necesidades), que aumenta según el trabajo que se tenga. Quienes trabajan fuera ponen una parte de su sueldo (un porcentaje armonizado) en el fondo. Quienes trabajan dentro, en las diversas actividades económicas que se creen (organizados como autónomos o en cooperativas)*, recibirán también un sueldo, variable entre un mínimo y un máximo acordados. A ese sueldo se le descontará una parte para el fondo. Quienes trabajan dentro en actividades no económicas tienen garantizado un sueldo en ‘taldas’ (se aspira a poder convertir parte de ese sueldo en euros lo antes posible). De este sueldo se descontará el mínimo y el porcentaje acordado para el fondo, también en ‘taldas’.
Puede haber personas de fuera de la comunidad que trabajen en negocios de la comunidad. Su suelo será equiparable a los sueldos internos.
* Cada taldeano es responsable de su empleo, bien trabajando fuera, bien desarrollando en el lugar una actividad económica productiva (para lo que contará con el apoyo de la comunidad). Esa actividad se puede llevar a cabo como autónomo o en cooperativa, pero en ambos casos se seguirá el modelo de la empresa social solidaria, en la que más allá de un salario acordado, no se distribuyen beneficios entre los socios. Los posibles beneficios de esas actividades se distribuirán en porcentajes flexibles en torno al 40% para mantenimiento e inversiones en el propio negocio y 60% para invertir en otros proyectos comunitarios y solidarios.
Círculo externo
Habrá un círculo externo local y otro global. El círculo local estará formado por personas de la zona interesadas en el proyecto y con quienes se pueden establecer diferentes formas de colaboración (trueque, ventajas en cursos y formación, etc.). Mientras que el circulo externo global estará formado por personas simpatizantes del proyecto y por las diferentes redes a las que pertenezcamos.
The community is made up of people who are co-owners of the project (that is, the land and the houses, there is no private property). They live together (in a common space, but in several houses of different sizes), they eat together (at least once a day), they take decisions through assembly (strategic and organizational) and delegation (operational decisions), they have sharings*, and rituals, and they also do a minimum of voluntary work for the community (What is suggested: around 200 hr every year, choosing between: 1. * “Sharing” is a space for the group’s emotional management.
Property
In the case of leaving Artosilla and purchasing a new property, a suitable legal concept should be sought (probably a cooperative). It might happen that there will be other external co-owners (investors), but always in a lower percentage than those of the communards. All Taldeans will be co-owners and for that purpose they must make an initial investment of 5.000 euros*.
* Refer to document “Co-Participation” for further information on this issue.
Jobs
Jobs can be either internal or external. In both cases, lucrative work should generate a surplus which would cover the wages for other non money-making internal jobs which are, however, essential to the community (maintenance, vegetable gardens, etc).
Everyone has to contribute a minimum monthly amount of money to a community fund (presently this amount is 250 euros, modifiable depending on needs), which increases according to the type of job one has.
Those who work outside contribute part of their salaries (a harmonized percentage) to the fund.Those working inside, in the different economic activities to be created (self-employed or within cooperatives)*, will receive a salary as well, variable between an agreed minimum and maximum. A part of their salary will also be deducted for the common fund. Those working in non-economic activities are guaranteed a wage in “taldas”(Taldea’s alternative currency) (we seek to be able to exchange part of the wage into euros asap). From this wage, only a minimum and the agreed percentage will be deducted for the fund, also in “taldas”.
There may also be people from outside the community working in the community’s businesses. Their incomes will be comparable to the internal salaries.
*Every Taldean is responsible for their employment, whether working outside or undertaking a lucrative economic activity (for which one will count on the support of the community). This activity can be carried out through self-employment or in a cooperative, but in both cases a social economy business model will be followed, where besides having an agreed salary; profits are not distributed among partners. Potential profits coming from those activities will be distributed via flexible percentages of around 40 % for the maintenance and investment into the venture itself and 60 % for investing in community and solidarity projects.
External Circle
There will be both local and global external circles. The local sphere will be made up of people from the surrounding area who are interested in the project and with whom different ways of collaboration might be arranged (barter, discounts on courses and learning, etc.). The global external sphere will be composed of the project’s friends and by the different networks we may belong to.

• On 9 May and 13 May 2006 F was taken to Sydney airport;
• On each occasion he refused to board a flight to the United States;
• On each occasion he informed his father and the authorities that he did not want to return to the United States;
• On the first occasion the father’s attempts to persuade the child to join him voluntarily were unsuccessful and the father then desisted from any further attempt to force the child onto the plane;
• On the second occasion the Federal police officer approached the child who was crying and saying that he was not willing to get on the plane. The officer then said to F something like “What will you do if I have to pick you up and carry you onto the plane?”. F said “I won’t go” and started crying more. The officer then grabbed hold of F’s upper arm and attempted to pull him off the seat. F reacted by pulling his arm free and attempting to move his body further away. F was also holding tightly onto the seat handles and cushion. The officer desisted and stepped back as it became evident that F was becoming more distressed. The Federal Police refused to apply any further force to the child. The father was then invited to attempt to persuade the child to join him on the plane but the child resisted any of his father’s entreaties.
46. The father’s evidence concerning the events surrounding 9 May 2006 would indicate that the maternal grandmother was fully supportive of the child in his resistance to return to the United States. She insisted on accompanying the child to the airport and at the airport told the father to “[l]eave the child alone. Can you hear he doesn’t want to go back with you”. Whilst there may be reason to question whether the child’s reactions might have been different if the maternal grandmother had appeared to be supportive of the return order, the reality is that the child was hostile and oppositional. The grandmother’s empathy could not be seen to detract from that reality.

Much of the energy absorbed at the Earth's surface is radiated upward as infrared (IR) thermal energy. Several gases that occur naturally in the atmosphere absorb this infrared energy and re-radiate it back to the surface. Therefore, heat that would be lost to space is trapped near the surface. The effect of the atmosphere and its heat-absorbing gases warms the Earth's surface and the Earth's surface therefore reaches radiative balance at a higher temperature than if there were no atmosphere, or an atmosphere without IR-trapping gases. The term "greenhouse" is used to describe this phenomenon since these gases act like the glass of a greenhouse to trap heat and maintain higher interior temperatures than would normally occur. The atmospheric gases most responsible for this effect are water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and ozone (O3). This "greenhouse effect" occurs naturally in our atmosphere and is responsible for the Earth's moderate surface temperature.
Water vapor and carbon dioxide are the largest contributors to the natural greenhouse effect due to their overall abundance in the atmosphere. Methane, although at very low atmospheric concentrations, is a much more efficient absorber of infrared radiation than either H2O or CO2. Over a 100 year period, a molecule of methane can absorb about 25 times more IR energy than a molecule of carbon dioxide. A molecule of nitrous oxide can absorb about 320 times more energy than one of CO2. Therefore, although methane and nitrous oxide occur in very low concentrations, they exert a substantial influence because they are potent absorbers.

“White coffee, but just a spot of lukewarm milk, barman”, he said to the waiter, placing his big envelope on the counter and fishing out the pages inside.
“What’s that?” asked the waiter.
“That? “It’s a translation tes- …” The Little Translator’s chest puffed out a little. He patted the pages a little for effect. “Oh”, he said, in a tone which he hoped was a sufficient cross between blasé and lofty, “that’s a French technical translation I’ve been commissioned to do. Very technical, in fact, yes. Some rather topic-specific vocabulary, I shouldn’t wonder. Just going to give it the once-over with a coffee here, get my ideas in order, if you will, take a decision as to a linguistic strategy.”
The waiter stared at him. “No, I didn’t hear what you said, that’s all. What was it you wanted?”
“Oh”, said the Little Translator, deflating considerably. “It was, erm, a white coffee. Yes, er, thank you, thanks ever so much …”
He walked over to a corner with his coffee - or skulked over, rather - and had a look at the text.
After five minutes reading, he was on page 7 of 12.
By this time the Little Translator was beginning to feel a horrid kind of Frightening Fear taking over his body. Yes, he could feel the cold hand of Fear clutching his stomach.
Or perhaps a bit below his stomach. He was beginning to sweat copiously, too.
“I really don’t have a clue what they’re talking about here”, he quavered to himself, reaching under his shirt and wiping the streams of sweat from his chest. “It’s in French all right, but it’s like a different language or something.”
The Little Translator read a few more pages, and laid the pages down on the table. He stared at the text, and found himself uttering that very human of phrases to himself: “I don’t know what I’m going to do …”
He had never had Translation Fear before. Professor Brookesduddy had never mentioned it.

Para entonces el Traductorcillo estaba comenzando a sentir una especie escalofriante de Miedo Aterrorizante que invadía todo su cuerpo. Sí, ahora podía sentir la fría mano del Miedo atenazando su estomago.
O quizá fuese un poco por debajo de su estomago. Además, estaba comenzando a sudar copiosamente.
«No tengo ni idea de lo que están hablando aquí», balbuceó a sí mismo a la vez que se secaba los chorros de sudor de su pecho con el interior de la camisa. «Está en francés, está claro, pero es como otro lenguaje diferente o algo así.»
El Traductorcillo leyó unas páginas más, y posó el fajo en la mesa. Se quedó mirando el texto y se halló a sí mismo pronunciando esas palabras tan humanas, diciéndose: «No sé lo que voy a hacer...». Nunca antes había experimentado el Pavor Traductológico. El profesor Carcamaltodoestabien nunca lo había mencionado.

Texto de origen - inglés 1. The Proprietor hereby grants and assigns to the Publisher
a) the right to make a faithful translation of the Work in the Spanish language. The Publisher shall follow the text of the work, including the acknowledgements and shall make no additions, deletions or alterations of any kind without the prior written consent of the Proprietor.
b) the exclusive right to print, publish and sell the translation throughout the World.
The Proprietor reserves all rights not specifically granted to the Publisher in this Agreement.
2. The Proprietor warrants to the Publisher that the Work is in no way a violation of any existing copyright and that they will indemnify the Publisher in consequence of any breach of the warranty.
3. The Publisher agrees to publish the translation of the Work in a jacketed hardcover or trade paperback edition, in a style and manner and at such price as the Publisher deems appropriate. The Publisher agrees to publish the book in its completed form and at its own expense within 18 months of the signing of this contract unless prevented from so doing by war, strikes, lockouts or other circumstances beyond their control.
4. All details as to the manner of publication, production and advertising of the translation and the number and destination of free copies shall be left to the discretion of the Publisher who shall bear all expenses in connection herewith.
5. The Publisher agrees to pay to the Proprietor the following royalties for all editions:
a) 8 % of the retail price less VAT from 1 to 750 copies sold
10 % of the retail price less VAT from every copy sold thereafter;
25 % of all net receipts for the sale of the electronic version of the translated Work.
Traducción - español 1. El Propietario por la presente otorga y asigna a la Editorial
a) el derecho de hacer una traducción fiel de la Obra hacia el idioma español. La Editorial se ceñirá al texto de la Obra, incluyendo los reconocimientos y no realizará adiciones, supresiones o alteraciones de ningún tipo sin el consentimiento previo y por escrito de su Titular.
b) el derecho exclusivo de imprimir, publicar y vender la traducción en todo el mundo.
El Titular se reserva todos los derechos que no se conceden expresamente a la Editorial en el presente Acuerdo.
2. El Titular garantiza a la Editorial que la Obra no constituye de ninguna manera una violación de cualquier derecho de autor existente y que indemnizará a la Editorial que se derive de cualquier incumplimiento de la garantía.
3. La Editorial se compromete a publicar la traducción de la Obra en una edición de tapa dura con cubierta o en rústica de bolsillo, con un estilo y forma y con un precio que la Editorial considere apropiado. La Editorial se compromete a publicar el libro en su forma íntegra y asumiendo los gastos derivados en el plazo de los 18 meses posteriores a la firma de este contrato, a no ser que se lo impidan circunstancias como guerra, huelgas, cierres patronales u otras circunstancias fuera de su control.
4. Todos los detalles relativos a la modalidad de publicación, producción y de publicidad de la traducción y el número y el destino de las copias gratuitas se dejan a la discreción de la Editorial, que se hará cargo de todos los gastos relacionados con las mismas.
5. La Editorial se compromete a pagar al Titular los siguientes derechos de propiedad intelectual para todas las ediciones:
a) 8 % del precio de venta menos el IVA de la 1ª copia vendida hasta la n.º 750 de las copias vendidas
10 % del precio de venta menos el IVA de cada ejemplar vendido a partir de entonces;
25 % de todos los ingresos netos de la venta de la versión electrónica de la Obra traducida.

I endeavour to be an enthusiastic and creative professional translator/ proofreader.
I completed a degree in Translation and Interpretation in 2008, but previously had studied English Philology 1993-1996.
I tried my hand at technical translation collaborating closely, for 5+ years, with the Technical Manager of a canmaking factory in Zaragoza (Grumetal-Massilly), before actually being a professional freelance translator.
I have been freelancing since since my graduation for some agencies in the fields of marketing, advertising, technical fields (packaging, lubricants, automotive, technical manuals, computer applications, industrial production, agribusiness, etc.).
Although I find any topic appealing, my passion is working on issues related to sustainability, environment, ecology, social economy, development aid, human rights, appropriate technologies, biomass, renewable energy and related topics.
