Turned the lights off!!
Lights and door | Oct 10, 2007 |
I normally manage a swift backward environmentally friendly glance at the lights, and also try to remember actually to close the front door, otherwise my neighbours laugh at me - chasing after children as I depart often means that things get forgotten!
My dogs spend the day in the garden... | Oct 10, 2007 |

Close Outlook | Oct 10, 2007 |
I always make sure I have closed all Outlook applications (or shut my computers off), otherwise my Blackberry will not receive new messages sent by clients while I am away and I would lose work.
I also make sure I have closed all windows and that I'm not wearing my PJs and slippers (I've been known to get out of the house in that manner...).
Household appliances and door | Oct 10, 2007 |
Before leaving home, I double check if the gas supply is turned off as well as if all doors and windows are locked up. And, of course, I shut down my computer after having done all this so I can check my mails for last time;).
Regards,
Fernando

Make sure I talk to my cat | Oct 10, 2007 |
I know, I'm a crazy cat lady. I wish him a pleasant day and a nice nap.

How can you leave home without checking all these things? The only one I wouldn't say yes to is the one about the dog/cat, because our cat either goes to a cattery or is shut in with enough food & drink to keep her going for one or two nights (never more than that).

Me too, Nina! I also talk to my dog!!! I love animals and I love her of course! I make the arrangements for her to be comfortable while I am away. After that, I check my mails and if the doors and windows are locked.

Closed all the windows, activated the alarm, double-locked the doors, locked the security gates, and padlocked the outside gate.

I don't quite understand why you people do this?
And where is the most natural option "I don't leave my home", I wonder?..

I always check that everything is off before I leave, especially electricity both to prevent fires from shortcircuits and because my neighbours have access to my connection and steel.(this will soon be solved, I hope.)
On the other hand, I agree with Jack 100%, let my siamese cats out while I'm not home, never!

Definitely... I know I am mad, but I cannot leave the house if I haven't double checked that:
1) the dogs (yes! two of them!) are fine
2) the gas is off
3) I've actually handed in my work
4) the lights are off
5) I've checked my email
6) The door and windows are locked...
and of course,
7) that I have my house/car keys as well as my mobile

I went for the household appliances option, but actually I check quite a few things before I leave home:
1. Check my hair straighteners are switched off!
2. Check that nothing has been left on in the kitchen
3. Check that the cat has food and water
4. Turn off all the lights
5. Check my handbag countless times to make sure I've got my keys, wallet and mobile phone (I get emails on my phone, so no need to worry about that..)

I am horribly paranoid about these things, and quite often turn around and come back home once I've left to check them again. And even then I might panic about leaving the gas on two hours later! ▲ Collapse
