Yes, if the deadline is not tight. May 26, 2007

If the agencies/clients allow me sufficient time to do a translation, I keep postponing the work out of laziness. As a result, sometimes, I have to work very hard as some other agencies want me to deliver a job urgently. So, I have to finish this as well as the other job, which was postponed by me earlier. I know this is a bad habit, but I have not been able to get rid of it for the last 19 years or so.

My philosophy has always been: Why procrastinate before you have to?

A reformed procrastinator May 26, 2007

I used to be a procrastinator, until I realized that attacking a problem at the outset and 'coasting home' makes life so much easier and less stressful!

Only to a point May 26, 2007

But I would not call it procrastination. A good time-planning rather

In my view, "do it now" is the secret to success in business.

Incidentally, here's a story.
A Spaniard asked an Arab how to say "mañana" in Arabic. The Arab thought for a while and replied "I don't think Arabic contains a word that conveys that sense of urgency".

Just a joke - no offence intended.

Kind regards,
Jenny.

By nature I definitely am one, but wisdom and self-awareness gained through many-years' painful experience already prevails Which probably means I am getting old

Pressure brings out the best in me... May 26, 2007

...or so I would like to believe!

Generous deadlines just don't work for me. Put me under pressure and I'm on fire!!

Ok, I'm in denial. I admit it - am a procrastinator.

No, or rather not any more May 26, 2007

Until the job is done it is a burden... unpaid for. Why would I need a double-shift, so to speak? It sits in the back of your mind torturing you and you are only half-relaxed at best. I can't remember any really luxurious deadlines but quite often they are just right, nice breaks including, and those breaks feel much nicer when you know that a good chunk is already done and over with. I prefer to keep it that way. When I feel dead lazy I simply say "no".

a. I would be stealing my own no-worry free time
b. I'll have time for another job should I feel like it and it'll still be only one on my desk.

You can say that I am not a procrastinator because I am lazy and I hate discomfort:-)

I have an (agency) customer who bullies her customers and gives me very generous deadlines.

The result?

Procrastination and "JIT" delivery. Hasn't gone wrong yet (Inshallah).

The possible solution would be planning your life in Excel, but I've been there and done that as an inhouse person: it's a sad business and one that makes me revel in being in charge of my life.

We can "leverage" some wonderful tools for such tasks. I find a pencil and paper quite useful. Honest!

Chris

The results are skewed May 27, 2007

The people that would answer "most of the time" won't get round to voting before the poll closes

That reminds me, I must vote...

Terry.

And that because there's practically no way of knowing the difference between Sometimes/Most of the time AND I'll tell you later
