All my customers in the EU pay me by bank transfer, it incurs no fees and is quick and simple. My other customers non-EU pay me through Wise or TransferMate. On the other hand, all my banking is done online.

Thinking of starting to use
May 8, 2022
I'm thinking of starting to use Proz*Pay. At the moment I use Wise but recently they told me that I can't receive payments for freelance services in my personal account. It's weird but it seems that they won't be convinced.
Proz*Pay seems nice way to collect small payments and withdraw them as a bulk amount. It's only disadvantage is that many clients ask a direct Paypal account and I'm not sure if they'll accept to log in Proz.com to do a payment via Proz*Pay.

They want you to switch to their "Business" account so that they take 3-5% fee on everything you receive.
They told me the same thing after 5 years of doing business with them and it is the most absurd thing that happened to me with this company.
As for PayPal, this is by far the worst company to receive and send money (highest fees ever for receiving money and the worst exchange rate for sending money).

or twice, a little more than a decade ago, through the in-built invoicing system. Was it ProzPay?
everything's been very smooth and clear, but, I am afraid, too transparent

Nope! Bank transfer only, all fees for the client. I did accept cheques before, and during lockdown the last few clients using cheques must have run out, and started paying by transfer and realised it's so much easier and cheaper. Now, I'm no longer prepared to use any other system.

Before Brexit, I paid zero fees for receiving international bank transfers. Last month's bank statement shows fees deducted by the correspondent bank (middleman) of £0, £1.50, £2.50, £6 and £15, despite my clients paying "all" fees. I have no idea why the fees vary so much.
Such is the cost of using a Mickey Mouse bank (The Co-operative Bank) for ethical reasons.
