If you have end clients Nov 30, 2018

Then you get new clients all the time. Many of them will only contact you once, because they have a one-time need for a translation. The question was probably asked in the context of long-term agency clients. For the first I'd say "this week". For the latter, "many months ago".

New client, recommended by a colleague who focuses more on teaching than translation. Our first contact was some time in the last year, but he only sent me the first translation job this week.

But the truth is, I am reducing my activity towards retirement, and refuse most new requests. I only take them if the job is interesting and there are no hoops to jump through.

Or April 2018 (after paid test). Latest invoice June 2018. Around a eurogrand of business to date.
The agency didn't really comply with my requirements due to their 50 days month-end terms (I kid you not) that I had overlooked, so I vocally expressed my disappointment. Maybe that's why I haven't been approached for the past few months. Or perhaps I have delivered horrific work, but they couldn't be bothered to tell me and deprive me from payment. Maybe that's why I haven't been approached for the past few months. Or perhaps I have delivered horrific work, but they couldn't be bothered to tell me and deprive me from payment. On the other hand, getting paid after up to 80 days doesn't necessarily make this agency a keeper, however nice and supportive the PMs and interesting the assignments.

I am also delivering another paid test a new promising lead today. They mentioned a test from the onset, without specifying free or paid, which I found elegant.
Far less elegant (but I'm not here to watch cricket either) is that I gave my usual price for the test, just as I do when "free test" is specified and I care to respond.

Both have visited my proz.com profile before contacting me.

New client passed to me by a colleague in another language pair.

And last month an agency came back after 10 years with a series of jobs.

Early this year Nov 30, 2018

I can see from the year's invoices that two new clients turned up, and one sent a second job this month. I too am reducing the pace and not actively looking for new clients, but I did work for a handful at the end of last year and the beginning of this year.

A new museum client has contacted me in the last few weeks, but the text for translation was written by someone I have done quite a lot of work for over the years, who recommended me to do the translation, so I don't know whethe

A new museum client has contacted me in the last few weeks, but the text for translation was written by someone I have done quite a lot of work for over the years, who recommended me to do the translation, so I don't know whether that counts!

Otherwise good clients who go back a fair way have kept me quite busy.

Two new ones this week Nov 30, 2018

New clients come and go every week. However, becoming a regular client is something very different.
This week, I closed deals with two new clients, but they will likely be both a one-time job.
