Quite Often Nov 13, 2013

I quite often receive general feedback from customers and some of the customers sometimes provide me with their proofreader's feedback. Highly appreciated!

Hardly ever

The old maximum "No news is good news" holds true for this profession. If you get feedback, it's more likely to be negative than positive.

Hardly ever will you get a pat on the back.

does this question refer to the feedback on proz or similar website, also?
If it does, then, I think it's important to ask for feedback (and I usually ask, after an important job for a new client), as it works as a recommendation for my services and persona.

Regarding the feedback on e-mail, I agree with Julian - no news is good news. The first time (and only time so far) the client sent me the proofreading of my work, I blocked - what was I suppose to do with that? I acknowle

sadly my poll answers were edited, I wanted to ask about the level of feedback detail you get
i.e. detailed, general, occasional, etc.

in my case, some do, some don't - I prefer those who do!

with several agencies, it can take me almost as much time to go through the feedback as it did to translate the text
but other agencies do

but other agencies do not even acknowledge receipt of the translation unless I ask them specifically.
I am always happy to get feedback as only then can I see what to improve!

And I really appreciate it. I don't mind working alone a lot of the time but I do like a bit of encouragement now and then.

a pat on the back from me and I am sure you very rarely get negative feedback!

Negative feedback is the most useful, it is nice to be told "good job" at times, but mistakes teach you more than success!

Too hard Nov 13, 2013

I think that the texts that I do in general are just too difficult for feedback to be given on them.

Occasionally, an agency may congratulate me on a more general text but it doesn't happen very often though.

Then again, I do work abroad so my proofreaders are usually Spanish.

All my work comes from my mentor, so I never receive client feedback.

Yes, but extremely rarely. It is not something that I expect.

On behalf of the majority of translators Nov 13, 2013

I rarely get any positive feedback because my work is rarely any good

Go on, fire away...

do you really believe that?
If translations are rarely good, then the translators in question would soon find themselves out of work (with their particular customers, of course!)

How many of you actually demand feedback from your customers?

Yes, but rarely, very rarely.

Lack of feedback isn't so bad, because Julian has a point. The best positive "feedback" I get it when a client postpones the deadline, instead of going to another translator, if I'm busy at that time and unable to take their project right away.

Good feedback so far and I really appreciate the proofreader's feedback from the customers especially on the styles to be adapted to the readers living outside my country.
