I don't think I could stay away from translating, since I have a strong passion for languages and I love my job. Look at all the celebrities around you, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Robert de Niro, to name a few, who keep on sharing their musical/acting talents with us. They could have retired decades ago...

I would work less, maybe I'd do volunteer work, but I'd keep translating to some extent, sure!

and I resent the implication that I only work in order to get money. I do indeed work to get money. But not "only"....
Translation is not an obligation or a sentence for me, but a lifestyle option. I could work in something else, have done so before, but I believe translation is my true vocation and am lucky enough to enjoy something that makes me a living whereas many people I know hate their jobs and suffer each day with only the goal of some day retiring...

I could definitely see myself continuing to translate and/or interpret on a voluntary basis - as I did before I started doing it professionally. I would probably do much less commercial stuff and focus more on causes that I support.

... on exactly how large a sum of money it was!
I love translating, I can't imagine doing anything else. But if I had enough money to fund a luxury lifestyle for the rest of my life, then, honestly, I'd take the luxury lifestyle.

I would continue translating, but only on my own terms, with reasonable rates and payment deadlines. I would also optimise my business exceedingly, and only translate in a few highly specialised areas.

because I have always wanted to learn new cultures and languages. It may also be an opertunity to help those in need. It really does depend on the amount of money that it is.

And I always talk about that with my husband. I love translation so much, that I mostly work for the pleasure of translating and not for the amount of money I will get. That is secondary. I will keep translating even if I win the lotto and suddenly get 1'000,000 dollars.
My parents taught me how to do many things and to help with the household chores since I was young. I have been working on things all my life. I also compare myself to people I know who are very rich, extremely conc... See more And I always talk about that with my husband. I would but I would be more selective and enjoy the luxury! depending on the size of the amount. I did receive an inheritance last year but it wasn't a huge lump sum like a lottery. I did get an initial sum and was able to pay off debts and put some into the bank. I have been able to be a bit more selective with my jobs. I don't take every single job as I used to, and can do jobs that interest me or have better rates. I bought some new software and new equipment. SO it's helped my business!

I would work part-time and be more selective to pick out the jobs. I could never stop translating... I simply love my job!
