I donate money to certain charities every month and they in turn, help situations such as Haiti. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why this poll is of any relevance. Perhaps the more general, "do you give to charity" would be more apt?

Brannigan: 'time or services', which I presume means translating/interpreting for the aid effort. I suppose the relevance is that it would be interesting to hear how our skills can be used to help in these situations.

Seems relevant to me.
Yes, but indirectly.
I regularly do a little translation work for a childrens' charity. January's articles included something on Haiti.

HI, if you want to donate and do not know how and where, check out this project founded by MArtina Birkhoff. Recipients are only proven organisation, e.g. H.E.L.P. We donate EUR 1.00 from each translation or just send a lump sum.
Ich beteilige mich am Übersetzer-Hilfsprojekt für Haiti. Nähere Infos: [email protected]

I totally see your point. I just think this poll is too specific. A poll on pro bono and other forms of aid/relief or however you want to call it, would be more interesting.

I donate regularly to charities and organisations, I haven't seen reason to do anything extra on behalf of Haiti specifically. There are so many people suffering in the world, I can't bear to single out one specific cause. I trust that the organisations I choose know where my money is best spent. Haiti has been suffering for years, but not many paid attention. There are more places like that in the world, I don't want to get tunnel vision from newspaper headlines and emotional TV news reports.

Yes, a one-off payment directly through my bank account. But whose business is that except mine? I dont really see the point of the poll. I am often approached by charity workers canvassing in the street but the problem is that they all want a monthly commitment, which I am unble to take on board because of the unstable nature of freelancing (late payments, SS and tax obligations, etc). I am quite happy to make occasional payments to deserving causes but cannot afford it as a regular outlay... See more Yes, a one-off payment directly through my bank account. Hi Ann Sophie! I'm also translator and I work for a little NGO in Argentina. I would like to contact you. I will reach you at your email address. I wish we could do more for children all over the world and it makes me sad that, due to our hectic busy lives, we can just donate. All the best,

Wrong language pair, so I *can't* donate time or services. Which is probably the case for the 63% who voted no. We did donate money to the relief effort, but that's our business.

I donated money (the equivalent of an 8-hour day's revenue) I do not see how "translations" could (directly or indirectly) help anybody find a proper accomodation or medicine, especially in the Haitian situation right now.

Anyway, as many other posters here, I don't see the point of this question, or any relation with translation/translating

I totally agree with your points Brannigan.
I wonder, does prayer count as aid in this poll?
