I obtained a BSc. Honours degree in Applied Zoology, (principally Parasitology and animal physiology but also pesticide design and biological control of crop pests and diseases ) from the University of Leeds in 1994. My final year research project involved testing drugs developed by Glaxo Smithkline to combat Toxoplasma gondii.
Declining (somewhat reluctantly) the chance to work with Glaxo, I moved to Valencia Spain in 1994. In 1996 I successfully completed a Masters degree in "Gestion de Comercio Internacional" at the University of Valencia. From 1996 onwards I have worked as the export manger for Spanish companies in the food sector (rice and organic citrus) and run my own firm exporting Spanish gourmet food products to the UK and Europe. An important aspect of this work was the translation, both Spanish to English and vice-versa, of a wide range of documents - not only the sales contracts, customs and transport papers, marketing materials, etc., which are common to most business environments, but also technical and scientific texts relating to the uses of synthetic and biological phytosanitary products in the food industry.
I also have extensive experience as a simultaneous translator during business negotiations.
Since 2009 I have worked almost exclusively as a freelance translator of medical, veterinary, dentistry and pharma texts and am experienced in the translation of articles for publication in scientific journals and clinical trial documentation. |
