Wordfast Pro 3.4.8 crashes when I import big SDXLIFF files

I use the demo version of Wordfast Pro 3.4.8 as I can't afford to buy the full one. I've noticed that when a SDXLIFF file is over 500 segments, it crashes the programme. I try to save it but it just freezes. I seem to recall the same thing also happening with Excel files of a certain size. Is there any reason for this and how can I get round it?
