This pow-wow was held in a small sushi restaurant in Notre Dame de Grce, Montral.
Only 17 people signed the attendance sheet but I counted 22 at our table! Perhaps some were spouses and/or friends, rather than ProZ.com members.
Because the restaurant was small, we sat at a long table along the wall, which made it difficult to move around and mingle. As a result, I can only report what happened at one end of the table, where I sat with J-Gabriel, aubonmot, wainwright, BAMary, and Louise Dupont (one of our non-signers, I see now!) I also chatted with friends Herv du Verle and traviata, and of course organiser Nathalie Bendavid.
There was more talk about the menu and the snowbanks in the streets (how do you deal with it? I was amazed at the amount of snow cluttering the streets of Montreal!) than about our business, which is nice too. It's more plesant not to talk shop over supper, I find. I had to leave early (I still left an hour later than planned, though!) because of my long drive home but the roads remained clear of snow, so that was good. I think the party broke up early because it was a Sunday night, but most people were going home to the city or its suburbs. Good to know there are so many translators in the city!
I regret that I missed my opportunity to meet members for the first time: Bitten, Jennifer, Julie, Boris, Grgoire, Amika. It was good to see Joshua, though we had no chance to link up. And it was good to see Normand, Maria-Teresa and Paul, though we didn't get much chatting in.
Well, summer's coming and I'm thinking on hosting a floating pow-wow on the Saint Lawrence. If we get a nice big pontoon or river boats for the afternoon, we should have a nice time, we can do a pot-luck kind of thing to keep costs down, and have all afternoon to mingle and chat. After all, we are a big group of people with a lot to say in many different languages!
I hope some of the photogs who attended on Jan 9 will upload their pics.
Thanks for coming! Hope to see you all again soon!
