Hi, first of all: Thank you very much for this poll, Nicole, I really enjoyed all the comments so far I must confess that I never thought of giving unanimated objects names - at least not as far as I remember. I don't have a car and those in my family don't have names. I had to name my notebook when setting up the network, but it just got my nickname - Pi. And I never called it this way, I think. ... We have a network at home so we have to name our machines for easy identification especially when they are playing up. Core - the server Trifid - because it has 3 faces (monitors) Nyble - (my laptop) - because it is half a byte Nomad - (my husband's laptop) because it moves all over the palce, even abroad Orchid - (mine with 2 monitors) bacause it is a flower And they are all faithful to their purposes. | | | Marlou Franken Paesi Bassi Local time: 14:39 Membro (2006) Da Inglese a Olandese + ...
Now that it is mentioned in the poll, I guess I do nickname my Computer, as I called him respectfully when I laid down the money. But when he's my faithfull buddy....I'll just call him "pc", short and lower case. Hey pc-o, what is news this morning? When he performs tasks that really work, I'll refer to him as BEAST. Come on beast, unzip the shit....:) At times, when he seems a never ending mystery I call him THING as if it is an independently acting robot... I have seen that seldom people name their things, but mine have all names: My laptop name is PIRIPITOTO, which is some sort of term used by my partner's mother, who is from Andalucia (there, they use to have funny adjectives to describe things...). Apparently, something/someone which is "piripitoto" means somehow cosy and elegant. Our USB memories (we have three) are named: saltamontes (grasshopper), cucaracha (cokroach) and BebéUSB (BabyUSB), because of how they look ... "My other car is a Tete" | May 4, 2007 |
Each of our computers in the office has a name associated to our personal situation when we bought it.
