greetings
I would like to end my email message with a nice "goodbye" in Spanish? Is "Adios" a good expression? Is it too formal? Are there any greetings I can use to write to my friend in Spanish?

un saludo/un beso, nos vemos pronto
There are many! I would say it all depends on the closeness between you two. And in Spanish it is far more common to talk about "seeing" somebody soon rather than talking, even if that is all you are going to do due to living appart. Between friends it is normal to include something like "Un beso", "besos", "un saludo" "un abrazo" and then finish it with the farewell, "hasta pronto" y "hasta la vista" are the most common expressions, but for me it is more casual to say something like "nos vemos". The combinations are endless of course.
