Bio
DAVID PETERS | TRANSLATION
BACKGROUND
Native British English speaker. Since childhood I have had a fascination with languages and a passion for travel. I have extensive experience of studying and working in an international setting and of course picking up more languages along the way. As a student on the Erasmus programme I spent time studying at universities in Spain, France and Austria. Since graduating in 2003 I have lived in a variety of countries including the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates and Romania. Currently I am based in Bulgaria, where I have a home in the Balkan Mountains.
EDUCATION
Despite being a native English speaker, I attended a Welsh language secondary school between the ages of 11 and 18. This was the start of my love affair with languages.
In 1999 I began my studies at the University of Wales, Bangor. I graduated in 2003 with the following degree: BA (Hons) French, German & Spanish.
In 2007 I became a fully qualified teacher of languages, having gained a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages from Anglia Ruskin University.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
I have thirteen years' experience of teaching languages in schools. Initially I worked in state schools in England and Wales. After honing my craft in the UK, I took up a teaching post at a prestigious private school in Kazakhstan. I spent six years teaching French and Spanish in that country and also completed a short-term teaching contract at a private school in Dubai, before relocating to Romania in 2019.
2020 was a catalyst for change. I took a career break, which I spent at my home in Bulgaria.
In 2022 I began the journey into freelance work, initially teaching English online before making concerted efforts to shift to working as a translator.
