Why Words?

The secret of writing, if there is any, you have to be possessed by words... and feelings. Both must fascinate you so deeply that you feel an urge to settle a quest, searching for their unrevealed meanings.

At first, letting them settle their own course, wildly running in your mind like two free mustangs. For quite a while, nothing seems to be able to tame them and make them work together, but then, gradually, words seem to fit like pieces of a giant jigsaw, which you patiently build, bit by bit, disclosing a thought, a felling, an idea, a plot, an entire book.

Eventually, if you are lucky enough, you will be able to play with words, as a word whisperer, unleashing their new, and why not saying, their deepest meanings, and helping both words and feelings to release their infinite power into a blank paper sheet.

Writing is an addiction, of which you never get cured. Once it takes over you, there is no way to stop it. . .

The same is also appliable to translation. Yet, in this case, not only you need to have outstanding knowledge of both languages – native and foreign – but you have also to empathize with author. You need to put yourself in author's shoes and let his/her words reach the target. Otherwise, something will get lost in translation. . .

PORTUGUÊS O MEU SITE: Maria Fernando Lisboa - Freelance Translator
