Introduction to Swordfish, a Cross-Platform CAT Tool
Course summary
Description Attendees will have a chance to learn about SWORDFISH, a computer-assisted translation tool that is platform independent and works in Windows, Mac, and Linux computers without the need for emulators. Swordfish supports several file formats, including Microsoft Office, Office Libre, inDesign, HTML, and PO. It is seamlessly compatible with other CAT tools available in the market, opening a number of bilingual files in XLF, XLIFF, SDLXLIFF, TTX, and TXML. It also imports memory files in TMX or CSV formats, in addition to glossaries in GlossML and TBX formats. After a brief introduction to what CATs have in common, the presenter will highlight Swordfish features, including its flexible license, the translation engines it interacts with, layout options, segment merging and splitting, and two-column HTML preview. Several concepts, including translation memory, terminology database, tags, concordance search, and side-by-side preview will also be reviewed during the presentation. Before the Q&A session, the presenter will show how a sample project is translated in Swordfish, indicating the step-by-step process required to complete a translation and boost your productivity. Target audience Anyone interested in adding a CAT tool to their process, whether they have never worked with CATs or would like to learn more about an alternative to the CAT they already use.
