First time ever someone has come with a solution of instant online machine translation from English into Hindi language and vice versa. Such facility has been available in many language-pairs except in English-Hindi for last few years.
None other than the search engine giant Google itself has come up with this solution. Please go through this link... See more
Dear Translators!
First time ever someone has come with a solution of instant online machine translation from English into Hindi language and vice versa. Such facility has been available in many language-pairs except in English-Hindi for last few years.
Though the instant translation is possible from/into our mother tongue with the help of this tool, however, the translation quality output is really pathetic and very funny. Still, this may be helpful for translation of certain words/phrases if not for the whole and complicated sentences.
Google is known for its innovative, creative and best IT services and products which is used by the people all over the world. Interestingly, almost all of their services are free to use as well.
Do you think this new tool designed by Google will also improve a lot by the passing time, and may be after few/several years later, it would work as a stern competitor rather than just a meek tool for the translators.
I read it this morning in HT and tried the tool. It is really useless. It actually tries to simulate the rules of European languages and it does not work in Hindi
Here's an example:
English: My name is Ritu / yes, my name is ritu
Google Hindi translation: मेरा नाम है ऋतु / हाँ , मेरा नाम है ऋतु
Whereas in Hindi one says म... See more
Hi Vivek,
I read it this morning in HT and tried the tool.
Whereas in Hindi one says मेरा नाम ऋतु है / हाँ , मेरा नाम ऋतु है
And isn't it one of the simplest sentences that one can imagine?
Also, it is not even consistent as to how Ritu (रितु / ऋतु) is spelled. This is ok when it comes to proper nouns. But imagine a text related to weather/ season or something similar and you have all possible spellings of ऋतु and as all of us know that season is ऋतु and not रितु .
And when it comes to proper nouns, I write ऋतु and never रितु so...
Another simple sentence gave me such a hilarious answer... don't take it seriously... anyways, it's just too funny:
English: x loves a
Google Hindi translation: x से प्रेम रखता है a
Whereas in Hindi one says x a से प्रेम करता / करती है (and only a human translator can actually choose whether it should be करता or करती)
Now this one is really strange:
English: I'll pick you up this evening.
Google Hindi translation: मैं आपको इस शाम को चुनें देंगे .
English: I'll pick you up.
Google Hindi translation: मैं आप पिक अप देंगे .
English: leaves on a tree
Google Hindi translation: पर एक पेड़ के पत्तों
English: leaves of a tree
Google Hindi translation: पत्तियों का एक वृक्ष
English: strike gold
Google Hindi translation: सोने की हड़ताल
This is a simple example as to how accurate this MT tool is. If it can't even translate a simple sentence in a correct manner. And remember all the synonyms that we have in Hindi. I can't imagine a computer trying to figure out the correct one. And add to this the fact, that quite a few proper nouns have some meaning (and synonyms).
Will this tool be of some use? Maybe. But a computer wouldn't know the difference between synonyms and Hindi is such a rich and complex language. But it will definitely give us a lot of new jokes... so don't be surprised when you start getting new g-translated jokes
BTW just try out a few nursery rhymes. You'll have quite a few jokes.
