How Solar Lighting is Revolutionizing African Communities
The people of an impoverished southern African nation have everything to thank the Sun for; because a new revolution is sweeping across rural Malawi, lighting up village communities with cheap solar lamps that almost everybody is now able to afford.
The problem has been that access to modern electricity is but a privilege for the few who can afford it, and the majority area burning kerosene for lighting, a practice known to be expensive, dangerous and harmful to health.
An initiative run by Solar Aid, in partnership with the UK non-profit, TRAID, the project is geared toward protecting the environment and reducing poverty by introducing simple, locally assembled, affordable LED solar lanterns to the poorest communities, providing residents with a cheap alternative to kerosene while also generating employment opportunities for the underprivileged and ill.
A total of 120 young people, orphaned or affected by HIV/AIDS in northern Malawi are being trained to build these solar lanterns and act as campaigners and educational collaborators for the project.
Locals in the dusty Mzuzu town are leading other communities in replacing around 1 and a half million kerosene lamps in Malawi with solar lanterns where only 2 percent of the rural population are connected to the electricity grid.
For the rest, there was no other option than to rely on less viable sources such as kerosene for lighting. For their radios, they would use batteries, a very expensive affair. Now, one revolutionary micro solar panel powers all these - all for the Power of the Sun or Mphamvu Ya Dzuma in the local dialect."

Resumen: El” Halo oscuro” que se presenta en el esmalte adyacente a muchas clases III y IV, es un elemento antiestético no deseado y de muy difícil control. En este artículo se estudian sus causas, y luego se proponen soluciones clínicas. El Comportamiento de la Luz puede ser manejado por un “Espejo Interno” hecho con un tono de resina compuesta blanco opaco, y por una elección correcta del tono de esmalte, buscando suficiente difusión de la luz. EL Comportamiento de la Luz presenta varios temas a estudiar, tales como los conocidos bajo el nombre “Lenguaje del Color”: Valor, Tinte e Intensidad; los vinculados al pasaje de la luz a través de un cuerpo: Transparencia, Translucidez, Opacidad, y la Opalescencia con su efecto dicroico; así como una propiedad poco nombrada y menos aún aplicada en odontología: la Difusión de la Luz; y finalmente lo relativo a la Luminiscencia: la Fluorescencia. Se trata del Halo Oscuro que acompaña muchas veces a las Clases III y IV realizadas en resina compuesta. Este Halo no deseado se puede observar sobre el esmalte inmediato a esas restauraciones, en algunas o varias Incidencias (por lo general no en todas).
Esta situación clínica la hemos vivido muchas veces, y somos conscientes que muchísimos colegas también. La casi totalidad de los colegas consultados, declara tener este problema en restauraciones de esos tipos en más de la mitad de sus casos al menos. La amplia mayoría intenta como solución biselar o re-biselar el borde cavitario, con la nefasta consecuencia de que el Halo Oscuro, en lugar de desaparecer, se sitúa más allá del bisel, en la misma posición adyacente al material restaurador.
Sabiendo que estamos en un mundo causal, buscamos en las propiedades de la luz, aquellas que nos dieran por resultado sombra en un cuerpo iluminado, siempre guiados por conceptos en la materia básica: la Física, y dentro de ésta, la Óptica.
Los hombres de ciencia, hasta el Siglo XVII, creían que la luz era de naturaleza corpuscular. El holandés Huygens demostró en 1670 que la reflexión y la refracción de la luz podían explicarse satisfactoriamente adoptando otra base: la luz como ondas. ABSTRACT
The so called dark margin that appears in the adjacent enamel to many categories III & IV, is both a clear undesirable, unattractive component and element and difficult to control. This article deals with the study of its causes and eventually some clinic solutions are exposed.
Light behaviour can be dealt with a sort of in-bounded mirror made with a white opaque resin shade as well as the choice of the correct enamel colour, always searching for the necessary light dissemination.
Another new concept is the one related to “Intensity Balance “ whether strong and or intense dentin shades, different from the one chosen initially, are used.

INTRODUCTION
In order to be successful when working into Restoring or Cosmetic Dentistry and getting the desired results,it must not only be known but also considered the excellent control of multiple aspects. Among others, knowing and controlling Light Behaviour is of vital importance (Jack D Preston – 1980 – Colour Science and Dental Art).
Light Behaviour presents different areas to be studied, such as those known as “Language Colours, Value, Shade, Intensity”, those related to light dissemination through an object, transparency, opacity and opalescence with its dichroic effect, as well as a less Known property and even less used in Dentistry: Light dissemination.
Finally, the fact related to brightness: fluorescence (Peter Shäker, Ludwing A.Rinn, Fritz R. Kopp-1991- Aesthetics Principles in Restoring Dentistry. cap 1)

Referring back to Light Behaviour, it is essential to mention the property that led into writing this article the destructive interference of light.
Taking into account all the above mentioned aspects it comes of vital importance to analyse the destructive interference of light.
First of all, being our aim to get the best esthetics results possible a difficult clinical problem not always easy to sort out can appear: the Dark Margin that sometimes goes together with Types III & IV performed in composite resin.
This unwanted margin can be observed many times and also have many other colleagues. Most of whom being asked about this fact, claimed that they have faced the problem in at least more than half of the situations.
One of the most common and practical solutions put into practice is the recontouring of the cavity edge but realising that the dark margin instead of disappearing goes beyond the contour in the same adjacent position as the restoring material.
Within the properties of Light itself it has been searched for those that could offer some shade on a lit object. In order to achieve the basics in Physics and within it the optics must be taken into account.
Up to the XVII century, scientists believed that light had a corpuscular nature. Huygens shown in 1670 that light refraction could be explained well enough if another basis was adopted being this light as waves. (Gerald Holton, Stephen Brush -1973- Introduction to concepts and theories in Physical Science, ch23)
In the year1827 Young and Fresnel with their experiments into diffraction & interference shown that the first Theory was not the correct one as a satisfactory explanation could not be given by either of them. Since then, the theory of waves started to be generally accepted as today due to the fact that it allows explaining almost all the optical facts with the exception of the photoelectric fact.

Together with The Welcome PPP, we are planning to offer a learning enrichment program with a focus on early math using music and curriculum materials from the AAA Curriculum Lab in the CCC Department of Child Development at JJ University. The pilot program is designed to be engaging and fun for children, as they learn what they need for a good start in school. For example, as a child places blocks into an ever higher tower they can learn about counting (how many blocks in the tower), dimensionality (your tower is very tall, is it also very wide), shape (shape of blocks at the bottom, and at the top of the tower), and patterns while having fun with blocks.
Our approach to education builds upon the strengths of children, their families and community. We build upon these strengths so that children feel comfortable and familiar in their learning context. We recognize parents and families as a child’s “first teacher”. Therefore we want to build partnerships with families that will focus on supporting children’s learning and preparation for school success. We hope to create positive experiences with learning and education for all those involved.
Who Are We?
AA - she is a current PhD student at JJ University who is also the assistant director of the Curriculum Lab and brings with her five years of teaching experience with young children.
BB - is the Director if the Curriculum Lab and Lecturer at JJ University. BB also has more years experience with young children than she would like to count.

XXX reserves the right to set Buyer Activity limits to encourage responsible bidding behavior and to reduce disputes on Unpaid Items. These limits pertain to bids and Shop Now activity by buyers. A new bidder might have won 15 items totaling $1200 and has bids open on another 25 in a short period may find the activities restricted.
