Education I have a BA (Hons) in Modern Languages (French and Spanish), which included an academic year living and studying in Lyon, France. Other qualifications include translation certificates (French-English and Spanish-English, a Community Interpreting Certificate, a Certificate in TESOL and a Certificate in Education and Training; I also recently completed a Proz Transcreation course.
Experience I began working as a freelance translator and proofreader/editor several years ago and have translated and proofread/edited a range of files. I have also carried out community interpreting and fashion and travel copywriting.
Apart from this, I have worked in Education in an administrative as well as a teaching capacity; I have taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP).
In order to maintain and improve my knowledge of the languages that I translate from, I regularly watch films, listen to the radio, read literature and take part in conversational groups in these languages. When possible, I also visit the countries where the languages are spoken. I maintain and develop my knowledge of the subjects that I specialise and work in by reading relevant literature, carrying out internet and paper-based research and taking part in CPD events.
Interests In my free time I enjoy practising art, crafts, cooking and baking. I also have a keen interest in health, diet nutrition, food and drink, yoga and meditation. I therefore particularly welcome any translation and/or transcreation projects in these fields.
