The researchers started the selenium supplementation in the 12th to 14th week of pregnancy and continued it until delivery. By week 35, whole-blood selenium concentrations in the women in the selenium
treatment group had increased significantly. In the placebo group, whole-blood selenium concentrations had decreased significantly.
