In moto senza casco: scene consuete nella giungla del traffico metropolitano. I piu' irriducibili ovviamente sono i ragazzi, per i quali neppure una salatissima multa rappresenta di solito un buon deterrente. Tanto paga papa'. Ma da oggi ad Agrigento si cambia musica. Ai trasgressori colti in fallo sara' sequestrato il mezzo. E per riaverlo dovranno lavorare sodo: una settimana di fatica in attivita' socialmente utili. Come un impiegato comunale. Ma senza stipendio.
e' la punizione ideata dal sindaco Calogero Sodano, stavolta capace di strappare consensi a destra e a sinistra perche' i genitori nell'esercizio delle proprie funzioni non hanno colore politico, specialmente se c'e' da salvare qualche centone del bilancio familiare. Sara' la famiglia a decidere l'opzione: se scucire i quattrini o scaricare sul figlio indisciplinato il peso dell'infrazione. Dipendera' un po' dalla consistenza patrimoniale e molto dalla capacita' d'imporre al ragazzo comportamenti piu' regolari. Ma cosa faranno in concreto quelli che non otterranno una lira da papa' e mamma? Lavoreranno nei settori ecologico e ambientale, dipingeranno i cancelli, cureranno ville e giardini e altre cose analoghe. Spiega Sodano: "Il primo giorno servira' a pagare l'assicurazione che il Comune dovra' stipulare per ognuno dei contravvenzionati, il resto della settimana per estinguere il debito".

Bikers without helmets: a familiar scene amidst the chaos of metropolitan traffic. The most fearless are obviously young males, for whom not even a very steep fine is usually a suitable deterrent. At the end of the day, dad will pay it. But from today in Agrigento, Italy, things are going to change. Law-breakers caught in the act will have their vehicle seized. To get it back they will have to work hard: one week of toil, doing activities for the good of society. Like community work, but without the pay.
The punishment was conceived by Mayor Calogero Sodano, and this time he has been able to wrest approval from both the right and the left wing; because parents, when it comes to carrying out their duties, have no political affiliation, especially if there’s the option to save on their household budget.
The family will be able to choose whether to fork out the pennies, or leave their wayward son to deal with the consequences of his infraction. This will depend a little on how comfortable they are financially, and very much on their ability to impose correct behaviour on their son.
But, what about those whose parents don’t even give them a penny, what will they do? They will find themselves working in ecological and environmental sectors, painting gates, restoring houses and gardens, and other similar things. Sodano explained, “The first day will serve to pay the insurance that the town must stipulate for each offender. The rest of the week will serve to cancel out the debt.”

Motivated and personable languages graduate, with a love for translation and passion for learning.
I have a degree in BA Hispanic and Italian studies from the University of Birmingham, UK.
I graduated in 2012 with a high 2:1, including a distinction in spoken Italian, plus a module in intermediate Portuguese. In 2010 I went on a year abroad as part of the ERASMUS scheme, spending 9 months in Italy and 2 months in Spain. On my ERASMUS year I interacted with many different cultures and solidified my knowledge of the languages I studied, especially Italian, in fact I have now been living and working in Italy for 2 years and am extremely confident with using Italian in many situations.
