The new Matrix product announced today will create a more convenient second-line ARV treatment option. Patients will take three pills once a day instead of five or more pills twice a day (i.e. at least three in the morning and at least two in the evening) as required by alternative regimens. Additionally, the products will include the first ever heat-stable version of ritonavir, which does not require continuous refrigeration for its transport and distribution.
Noting advantages in convenience and affordability, WHO has identified the development of a second-line ARV therapy including atazanavir and ritonavir as a top priority. However, until now this regimen has been largely unavailable since the existing ritonavir formulation required continuous refrigeration, a major challenge for developing countries with limited infrastructure. Countries have begun to adopt this regimen in national treatment guidelines in anticipation of improved product features and pricing, and the Clinton Foundation expects many more to follow suit to take advantage of the agreements announced today.
If fully adopted, the new products and prices would enable cumulative cost savings of $400 million over the next 5 years, when compared with recent prices paid for alternative regimens. Although only 3 percent of total patients on treatment in low-income and sub-Saharan African countries are taking second-line ARVs today, these patients account for nearly 20 percent of total ARV expenditures because of the high cost of second-line drugs compared to first-line drugs. These percentages will grow steadily in the coming years as increasing numbers of HIV/AIDS patients experience first-line treatment failure. There were between 200,000 and 250,000 second-line patients across the developing world at the end of 2008. This number is expected to double over the next three years.

Texto de origen - español Con la llegada del budismo a Nanwutai-shan, los espacios sagrados fueron, poco a poco, transformándose en espacios sagrados budistas. La inserción del budismo se hizo de tal forma que, hoy por hoy, son muchos los templos, las leyendas, las actividades religiosas budistas, que existen en paralelo o superpuestos con prácticas daoístas. No obstante, los monjes daoístas suelen visitar Zhongnan-shan y aislarse en los maopeng de Nanwutai, y tanto budistas como daoístas son conscientes de la historia y la presencia de ambas tradiciones.
La montaña Nanwutai, cuyo nombre significa los Cinco Picos del Sur, debe su nombre a cinco picos o elevaciones llamadas, tai 臺. Pero si visitamos la montaña nos damos cuenta que la zona tiene más de cinco tai. The South Centre enjoys support from the governments of its member countries and of other countries of the South and is in regular working contact with the Group of 77 and the Non-Aligned Movement. Its studies and publications benefit from technical and intellectual capacities existing within South governments and institutions and among individuals of the South. Through working group sessions and consultations that involve experts from different parts of the South, and also from the North, common challenges faced by the South are studied and experience and knowledge are shared.
This “South Perspectives series” comprises authored policy papers and analyses on key issues facing developing countries in multilateral discussions and negotiations and on which they need to develop appropriate joint policy responses. Some people pay their way through college by waiting on tables, but I used my bilingual background and did it by translating. By the time I graduated I realized that, though biology was fun, translating it was even better!
I went on to study a master's degree in literary translation at one of the best universities in Mexico: El Colegio de México. Needless to say, this graduate course bumped my skills up to another level. Terminology in particular called to me, given its fundamental importance in any field of specialized translation, and so I made it the subject of my dissertation.
I recently took a one-year diploma course in legal translation delivered by the Mexican Translator’s Association and am certified by the Federal Judiciary Council of Mexico to issue certified translations.
It is probably obvious by now that I prefer to translate scientific or legal texts. I particularly enjoy pharmaceutical topics and academic papers. I am a professional translator who values timely deliveries and faithful translations with attention to detail. I believe that it is extremely important to use the correct terminology and, if necessary, conduct preliminary research to establish such terms. I take pride in turning in translated texts that are equivalent to their sources.
