Bio
I am a British-born linguist and have always been really interested in languages and other cultures. Since completing compulsory education in 1996, I have spent six years living in different countries (Costa Rica, Spain, France and Germany) to improve my grasp of the languages I have studied and absorb the culture in some of the countries where they are spoken.

I love working with these languages and translating. I especially enjoy the challenge of receiving a new text with interesting subject matter and ensuring that it is translated to a very high standard. I have always enjoyed reading, writing and researching and have a very keen eye for detail. I feel translation is an area where I can fully utilise these interests and skills.

I have just over two years' experience working as a full-time in-house translator (DE/FR/ES - EN) as well as temporary, freelance and academic experience in translation.

During this time, I have translated a wide variety of texts in the following specialist areas: pharmaceutical; medical (focus on immunology/genetics but other areas covered too); EU/UN; tourism; mechanical engineering/automotive; logistics; photovoltaics. My work includes the translation of technical and non-technical marketing documents, press releases and newspaper/magazine articles.
I also have experience of reviewing/proofreading translations and editing translations into English/performing US-UK English edits.

Prior to starting my one-year MA in Translating in 2009, I worked in a variety of temporary administrative and project roles at Manchester City Council and have several months’ experience working in an international organisation as a conference organiser and communications assistant. I have also taught English as a foreign language and worked as a freelance interpreter.

I have a BA in Modern Languages (French/Spanish) and an MA in Translating (French/German). I have lived and worked abroad for six years but am now based in the UK.
