inglés al español: Sample Patient Education translation General field: Medicina Detailed field: Medicina: Salud
Texto de origen - inglés Pain medicine, some chemotherapy drugs and other medicines can cause severe constipation by slowing down movement of stool in the intestine and removing more water than normal from the colon. You need to take bowel medicine to offset the constipating effect of these medicines. Refer to the list at the bottom of this page for additional medicines that cause constipation.

Texto de origen - inglés Before you can begin receiving the study drugs, you will have what are called "screening tests.” These tests will help the doctor decide if you are eligible to take part in this study. Blood (about 3 tablespoons) will be drawn for routine tests. This routine blood draw will include a pregnancy test for women who are able to have children. To be eligible to take part in this study, the pregnancy test must be negative. You will have a bone marrow biopsy. To collect a bone marrow biopsy, an area of the hip or chest bone is numbed with anesthetic, and a small amount of bone marrow and bone is withdrawn through a large needle. You will have a chest x-ray and a computed tomography (CT) scan of your sinuses. You will have an echocardiogram. An echocardiogram uses sound waves to make pictures of your heart, which helps show how well your heart pumps blood. You will also have an electrocardiogram (ECG--a test to measure the electrical activity of the heart). To check for any problems with your lungs and/or breathing, you will have a pulmonary function test.
