ProZ.com powwow: How to Handle Bigger Projects: QA Issues
October 5, 2008, 3:00 pm
TaiwánTaipeiIn personchino
Dear fellow translators in Taiwan,
For the past three years, we have had three powwows in Taiwan, two in Taipei and one in Hsinchu at Dr. Peng's. The first one was an ambitious one and we didn't reach the goal of setting up an association in Taiwan. For this reason, we tried a more practical approach at Dr. Peng's: We talked about using CAT tools.
The third powwow in Taipei was for translators with PM experiences. There were issues of common concern of translators in Taiwan, too. After the meeting, I scheduled a next powwow in September last year which I had to cancel for some reasons. However, I am inviting you again to the powwow meeting for mind-exchanging. We will have the same topic as the cancelled one: How to handle bigger projects.
Bigger projects are usually no business for single translators. The jobs are usually coordinated among several colleagues. In order to ensure the translation qualtiy, there must be a certain QA process involving more than one colleague while the preliminary jobs are being done. We will focus on the issues involved in different QA processes for different bigger translation projects.
I hope that you guys, who were in the last powwow, will be there this time and bring some more colleagues with you, especially colleagues who are in charge of QA. Those who were not in the last powwows or in charge of QA are welcome as well. The meeting could be a translator chatroom.
We will meet at Cat Mint near National Normal University in Taipei this time. Enjoy the meeting!

Dear Friends,
Thank you for your interest in the meeting.
There are other 5 persons who are not registered here and they were the basic participants. With your participation, there will be more than 10 persons.
If you don't know where Catmint is, I will post a location indication later.
I am sure that we will have 3 hours happy time together.
Take care!
- Wenjer

Permanent Meeting Point
Oct 4, 2008
Dear All,
It was Humanity Space where we used to have powwow meetings and Catmint was for private meetings. However, I arranged Catmint for this last powwow meeting organised by me, because I was expecting no more than 15 participants. If there are going to be more participants, some of you might have no seat and have to be standing for the 2 hours meeting.
Since I intend to establish a Society of Taipei Freelance Translators, I talk to a friend locating at the nearby of Do... See more
Dear All,
It was Humanity Space where we used to have powwow meetings and Catmint was for private meetings. However, I arranged Catmint for this last powwow meeting organised by me, because I was expecting no more than 15 participants. If there are going to be more participants, some of you might have no seat and have to be standing for the 2 hours meeting.
Since I intend to establish a Society of Taipei Freelance Translators, I talk to a friend locating at the nearby of Doctor Sun Yat Sen's Memorial Hall. We will have a regular meeting point at that location where Lectures on Translation Market, Lectures on Latin America Study and Tango Classes will be given.
For Latin America Study and Tango Classes, there is already a website launched and the classes have been held at the location since 3 months. I will announce the URL at this powwow meeting.
For the Translation Business, we will have another website. The IPs and servers are arranged. What I need would be some more manpower to finish the last works for the launching. I hope that some of you can help me having the works done.
As to the main topic of this meeting, How to Handle Bigger Projects, I will introduce you some methods to approach the market and to tackle such bigger jobs with tools and collaborations while the issue of QA will be addressed as well.
Any suggestions for the proceeding or topics for the 2 hours are welcome. I wish everybody a pleasant Sunday afternoon!

Dear all,
Thank you for coming! And special thanks to Alex for his informative introduction into localization business and tips of quality guidelines.
I hope you all have enjoyed the meeting today and will be meeting each other sometime later either at the "Salon" in the nearby of Sun Yat Sen's Memorial Hall or somewhere else.
Be good and don't miss anything I would have done when I was so young as you are!

Something forgot to say

As I stressed, everyone of you is the most important. Keep on building up your competence and there will be collaborations with many people by opportunities.
However, it is the competences, the attitudes toward life and the opportunities that put people together and that make people collaborating. Be patient and learn from each other or make use of each other's strength to achieve common interests. Freelancers are not alone, indeed.
