Hi guys,
I have been working on a Powerpoint file for quite a few hours. As I had to go out for a while, I saved the file and left. Now I have been wanting to go back to work and the program keeps telling me that the file cannot be opened. It also says that no registered converter can be found.
I reinstalled Office 97. Nothing. To make matters worse, my program is in spanish and my husband [ american who does not read spanish] cannot give me a hand.

Looks to me as if your file is corrupted and if so, there\'s nothing you can do, I\'m afraid. However, prior to settling for that try this:
What is the current file extension? Is it \".ppt\"? If so, rename it and try to open it again. If this doesn\'t do it, try and change the file extension from \".ppt\" to something else, maybe \".doc\" and see whether you can open the file in Word (at least you could save some of the content that way).

Finally, if you have any kind of kind of file-checking or cleaning programs (can easily be downloaded from the Internet(go to http://www.ZD.com), try to clean the file up and re-open.
Hope one of these works... ▲ Collapse | | | Ralf Lemster Alemania Local time: 21:53 inglés al alemán + ... Which PowerPoint version? | Mar 29, 2002 |
Hi Bertha,
I admit that I don\'t really have an idea what could have happened - what version of PPT are you using? Was the file you worked on the same version, or an earlier one?

1) Do you have two versions of Powerpoint on the same hard disk? If this is the case, you can try to read the file by \"File - Open\" (try both versions).
2) Is there enough space on your disk? If this is not the case, try on another disk, or another computer.
Good luck!

Last night I stayed up longer than usual and started the translation from the beginning.
Tayfun, as soon as I am done with the translation, I will follow your advice. Though I will not use THAT file, I will have a go and see what happens.
Before I had the problem,I had already done some 1,500 words, clicking in no less than 10 different boxes. But when I decided to do it for the second time - gee!- that was so much faster!
