Spanish term or phrase: referentes plásticos
The text is describing an exhibition. "Referentes plásticos" comes up several times. I know the "artes plásticas" are the "plastic arts", but "plastic" (in this sense) seems to be used less in English.

"Plastic referent(s)" sounds pretty odd to me. It gets a few hits on Google, but nothing too convincing. I'm tempted to just use "artistic referents" in this case. Any other suggestions? TIA

La exposición muestra por primera vez la relación entre Dalí y Lorca a través de sus ***referentes plásticos*** y artísticos de la vanguardia europea de los años 20’ del siglo XX.

Benchmark/milestone/reference (points) etc.
"Plastic" does sound odd and has had a negative connotation in English since the 60s.

Notes to answerer
Asker: It seems clear from the different contexts in which this is used that by "referentes" the author means the models (artists, movements) that were influencing their works. So I think "referents" is okay.

artistic influences

Explanation:
"Referentes" usually refers to people, not things, and this would be borne out by the continuation of the sentence, as it says they were "part of the European avant-garde in the 20s" which you would not say of pieces of art. I don't much like "referent," influences is more normal and intelligible.
