As a freelance translator, I work for translation agencies as well as for companies. Whether you want me to translate from German into English or from English into German: as a child of a German father and an Australian mother I can do both equally well.

As a physicist, I didn't complete formal training as a translator or linguist - instead I bring an intuitive sense of language structure and patterns, and an almost obsessive pedantry in style and grammar issues. However, it took me more than 20 years to come up with the idea of earning money full-time with my language skills. The reason for this is that I come from a family of engineers: there, choosing physics as my field of university studies was already considered an exception to the rule. During my work as a student assistant, I first gained some experience in the field of process/chemical engineering, before I later completed my Master's thesis in theoretical/computational chemistry. 

After completing my university studies, I worked 11 years as a Maths & Physics teacher at international schools in Germany, Portugal and Spain. During this time I learned that intercultural communication is key: in the multicultural environment, switching between two or even three languages was a part of everyday life. Accordingly, I was often entrusted with relevant translation tasks.

I also learned Spanish during my two-year work stay in Spain. Later, I broadened and deepened my Spanish language skills in numerous courses at the Instituto Cervantes and at a language school in Valencia, Spain. Additionally, I taught Spanish at school for 6 years.

Jobs will always be done thoroughly and with attention to detail - no matter if it's about the required accuracy of a technical translation or if I have to deal with a sales text that depends on good creative writing.
