Legislature - Executive - Judiciary

The Legislature makes rules or laws that citizens agree to obey, and plays an oversight role, carefully scrutinising the activities of the Executive.

The Executive implements laws and decisions that are made by the Legislature. The Premier, who is the head of the ruling party, chooses Members of the Executive Council (MECs) from the MPLs of his or her party. Each MEC is responsible for a certain Department, and has the title of “Minister.” For instance, the MEC heading the Education Department is called the Minister of Education.

The Judiciary ensures that the laws made by the Legislature are followed, and punishes anyone who breaks the law. The Courts assume the most prominent role in the Judiciary

In my experience, \"power\" (although correct, obviously) is seldom used. Where in Spanish we would refer to:

\"El poder Judicial\", in English this would usually be simply:

\"The Judiciary\"

The Three Powers is correct. I agree with the answer given below, I misunderstood the question and thought you needed to translate the three powers.

Thanks. Unfortunately, ProZ is still not all the way recovered from last weekend's system crash, so I can't get this term into the Glossary yet. I'll keep an eye out for when that becomes possible, and attend to the glossary then. Yolanda
