Quizás hay otro lugar donde incluir la necionalidad del Sr. M en el pasaje de forma que suene mejor...
Peer comment(s):

agree spanruss : I would remove "the shrub maze was", since it's not part of the term in question.

Otra opcion para "elaborado" podria ser "created" or "designed"...
Peer comment(s):

agree Refugio : Yes, although for some reason Englishman sounds a bit old-fashioned these days. If his profession is mentioned later in the sentence, as in "el ingles John M., arquitecto de paisajes", then it might sound better to say "British landscape architect John M"

De acuerdo. Gracias mil!
disagree spanruss : Systems, methods, concepts and ideas are abstract. "Development" works with them, but not as well with the concrete. John M. may well have initially developed an idea (abstract), but developing a maze or laberynth (concrete) doesn't sound right, IMHO.

Develop: to make something new, such a product, o mental or artistic creation. http://dict.die.net/develop/ - this has a very similar meeting to "elaborar"
