Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) medication prescriptions (inpatient)
I feel I should know this one ... but I can't figure it out, so here is the question:

This appears in a list of medications prescribed/administered to a hospital patient who underwent total hip replacement:

Medicamentos Formulados:

Acetaminofen tableta 500 mg
DOSIS: 1 GR
Cefalotina polvo para inyección 1 G
DOSIS: 1 GR
The patient receives other medication, but 'GR' appears only with the acetaminophen and cefalotin. (Other meds: metoclopramide hydrochloride, ranitidine hydrochloride, tramadol hydrochloride.)

I'm tempted to think that GR = "gramo" but I believe that the correct abbreviation, in Spanish as well as in English, is 'g' for grams.

What is this GR please?

Thanks ... to both my helpers :) I was just going to write that I'm finding both 'g' (more frequent) AND 'gr' shown online as abbreviations for 'gram/gramo'

Good morning Emma ... I appreciate your comment/question. For metoclopramida clorhidrato (solución inyectable) we have 10MG/2 ML, DOSIS=10 MG

Also, for example, we have omeprazol cápsula 20 mg, Dosis: 20 MG and tramadol clorhidrato solución inyectable 50 mg/ml, Dosis; 50MG.

The document has enough information blacked out that I can't even tell what country it comes from.

Maybe it really is 'Gramo' ... I'll wait and see if we get any more suggestions.

It can't be gragea because the second in the list is powder for injection.
What have you got after metoclopramide hydrochloride dosis: ??? Another abbreviation or a gap?

Having clarified in your discussion entry that another drug has MG next to the dose, this must be gramos or GR, so I would keep it the same in English, or put G on its own.

agree argentinesinger : gr o g es la abreviación de gramo (gram) . Cuando dice " 10gr/2ml significa que en 2 mililitros de la solución hay 10 gramos, por lo cual cada mililitro tiene 5 gramos. Mg es la milésima parte, "miligramo". Suerte y saludos a todos

so 500 mg = 1/2 gram

1 gram would not be overdosing, judging from the first site quoted

so 2 tablets a day in the first instance

BTW do you have any indication how long this medication is to be taken for??

Es que no es una abreviatura, es un símbolo de unidad. .... Otro error típico es gr para gramos (g) y sus variantes: kgr (kg), etc. Un saludo. ...
