narrative mayhem

or narrative confusion

just a suggestion...

This is a difficult one, without more information. I've had a look at his work on the net, and a lot of it seems to me rather calm, although he does reference Goya's disparates.

Good luck!

Note from asker:
I think with the "más allá" they're saying that his work does exactly that- it avoids narrative confusion. His work is at times very closely linked to Goya's, and this exhibition will be part of a bunch of events related to Goya in Aragón, I believe. Saludos, and thanks for the help- "narrative confusion" is very nice.

agree David Ronder : or chaos?

Thanks, David. I thought about chaos too, then I decided not to offer too many options! Actually I think "confusion" has the edge.
agree amendozachisum : agree, although abigarramiento does mean crowded together, I think confusion does reflect better the meaning here

narrative crowdedness

'Abigarrar' can be used to refer to things that are crowded together or bunched (apretujadas, amontonadas). Hope this helps!

Five years ago, as I walked among the huge canvases in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, I realised how much this cover had also been telling me about the narrative crowdedness of Russian novels and paintings of the era.

narrative complexity

A widely used term in analysis of cultural forms such as literature, film and art. Though maybe you need something stronger- over-complex narratives might work.
Example sentence:

Your Narrative Complexity theory has a parallel in Naive Complexity in artistic expressions.
