les live oaks (quercus virginiana) sont les chênes verts américains, les evergreen oaks (quercus ilex) sont du sud de l\'Europe

Peer comment(s):

agree Rachel Fell : i.e. with added note: holm oaks and wild broom moors- yes, I just meant this rather than live oak, which is an American variety

Yes; holm oak is the same as evergreen oak. Thank you

scrub oak and the guarigue

I live in this area of Southern France where the heath is called "la guarigue" and is quite different (obviously) from the heath/moorland one finds in the UK and therefore more difficult to translate the actual meaning. Is this one of those cases where an actual translation would not work and you would be better considering leaving it in French? for chene vert, what about scrub oak?
Peer comment(s):

agree Bourth (X) : garrigue, unless dialectal spelling
