English term

remandment

English to Spanish Other Education / Pedagogy alternative school
The end of this student's remandment is scheduled to end (date). I am requesting that he be allowed to return to his school of zone on (date) so that he will be able to begin the (next) semester with his schoolmates.

This is part of a letter requesting early release from an alternative school where students who have been expelled from school can continue their education, at a school with stricter rules, etc. They arrive each a.m and are searched for weapons, etc., and they leave each p.m. It is not a jail or detention center. So I think the word "condena" might be too strong for "remandment." I didn't find it in the dictionary.

Discussion

MollyRose (asker) Jul 30, 2010:
The remandment is that the student is sent to a strict (day) school. This is in addition to already being suspended or expelled, and not jail. Here in TN, the law says:
A student can not be remanded to an alternative program unless there is room for
enrollment. A student must be expelled or withdrawn, then remanded when he/she
can be enrolled in the alternative program.
10. Any expulsion or remandment may span school years. The student’s record must
continue the expulsion or remandment the next year.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I thought about sanción but wasn't sure if it would be accurate enough. It seems to be the only one that fits, though. Thanks."

Note from asker:
I appreciate your reply. But the students aren't under arrest, nor have they necessarily lost any freedom.

Also, it fits with the context.
Note from asker:
Thanks for replying. But no, because a suspended student could also be remanded.
Sorry, I put the wrong reason. The student is being expelled and being remanded to an ALC. Your answer can work sometimes.

expulsión, reprobación.

Notice:
While expulsión means that the student has to leave school, reprobación means the he/she has failed a course.
Example sentence:

Alumno fue expulsado tras insultar a una profesora por Facebook

ALUMNO FUE REPROBADO Y LE PEGó TROMPADA A PROFESORA

Note from asker:
Thanks for replying. But no, because a suspended student could also be remanded. And this isn't talking about a failed grade, but rather "tolerance zero" or other unacceptable conduct.

internado en correccional de menores/ reformatorio

Esto puede explicar bien de qué se trata la palabra "remandment", aún siendo un poco largo.

Reformatorio ya no se usa tanto, tal vez por resultar un poco fuerte.

Espero que ayude
