the others ganged up on me
when he says "que parece que es muy habitual" it sounds like a kind of "ritual" which for instance workers in factories perform on a new person joining: on the new person's first day a group of workers jumps on them, holds them down and throws water over them or something equally horrible... except in this case it might not have been something so physical
