Hi!

I had problems with Multiterm and Java previously which led me to remove Java 7 and reinstall the latest version of Java 6. I wonder if this has something to do with Studio not starting? Would anyone have any ideas what I should do?

Kind regards,

There must be something else to do May 17, 2013

I have only bought Studio 2011 last autumn and now I should buy some addition to it for it to work? That cannot be right! And everything worked fine until the windows update yesterday!

Something to do wiht licensing service May 17, 2013

HI, I have the sam problem.

I can fix it (for a while at least) with task manager.

I don't remember this exactly, but first i had to kill two processes:

nlssrv32.exe

and

nalserv.exe

after this, I had to restart them or something related to them in task manager Services tab (Palvelut in my Finnish Windows)

If I remember right, I had to restart them the following way:

I right clicked one of them and selected "Open services" (Avaa palvelut in finnish win)

After that, they are listed as

Nalpeiron Control Service

and

Nalpeiron Licensing Service

Then I right clicked them (do this to both services one at a time) and selected Properties (Ominaisuudet)

There I clicked some button, might be start or restart.

After that, Studio started, but the problem comes back every now and then

Hope this helps,

Tapsa

Can't find nlssrv32.exe and nalserv.exe in processes May 17, 2013

Hi Tapsa!

Thanks for your reply. I cannot find those two processes in task manager. I can find the the next two you mention (NalServ and Napagent) under the Services tab but not the processes that should be ended.

I think I will try reinstalling the whole software next.

Leena

possible solution May 17, 2013

Leena, I remember reading some time ago another post about the same problem as yours. here goes a possible solution:

Studio is possible opening in your case, but remains in the background.

hope it works!

Can't even reinstall Studio now May 17, 2013

Hi again!

Tapsa, you are right it has something to do with the licencing service. I removed studio 2011 from my computer and now tried reinstalling it but now it won't even reinstall the programme. It gives me the following error message:

Service 'Nalpeiron Licensing Service' (nlsX86cc) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services.

What should I do next? I'm getting desperate here!...

nlssrv32.exe and nalserv.exe May 17, 2013

These processes are listed in my task manager in "Lisätiedot" tab (not in Prosessit (Processes?) or Palvelut (Services) tab). Don't know what the tab is called in english.

By the way, I have win 8

Possible temporary solution May 17, 2013

I, too, am having problems with Studio 2011 after a heavy shot of updates from MS on Windows 7 Ultimate (around May 15, 2013). Studio, on startup, now insists I have to return a licence, which of course I am unable to do because I am deemed 'unauthorized'. The program then aborts.

Temporary work around I've used twice this week: run 'fix trados' under control panel - programs.

Uninstall the Windows 7 update? May 17, 2013

Hi Leena,

Have you found which update is the culprit? Is it among the "important updates"? If not, why don't you try uninstalling it?
Not all updates need to be installed.
I had to uninstall IE 10 (which also comes as a Windows update) the other day, because it was driving me mad.

HTH,
Nicolas Coyer

License is the culprit May 17, 2013

Hi All!

Thank you so much for your help. So far, I've finally managed to reinstall Studio on my machine. I found the nlssrv32.exe and nalserv.exe processes (I noticed there was a button 'show all processes' and when I clicked that, those two appeared on the list under the Processes tab). After doing what Tapsa suggested (ending the processes) I was then able to reinstall Studio. However, this did not fix the problem of it not starting.

I now have a similar situation to the one Tobias is having. Studio tells me there is a problem retrieving my license and it tells me I have "insufficient privileges" and asks me to deactivate the license. When I try to do this it does not work. Deactivation offline does not work either, another error message just appears.

Any suggestions anyone?

And Nicolas, I have no idea which Windows update caused this. My computer had actually updated itself on its own while I was out running and when I came back and turned it back on, all this started.

Managed to get Studio working again! May 17, 2013

Hi All!

I managed to get Studio working again. What I did was turn the nlsX86cc service back on (or start it, it was stopped) in Task Manager under the Services tab. After that I just tried opening Studio and 'ta-daa', it opened and did not complain anything. Somehow the update had screwed up the license retrieval and this fixed it. My special thanks to Tapsa (kiitos, kiitos, kiitos!!), without you hinting me to the license issue, I would not have been able to fix this.

My SDL May 17, 2013

Hi Leena,

Try this link on my SDL: http://kb.sdl.com/#tab:SFTab:crumb:0

Select Download & Installation Problems -> The installation went fine -> Studio 2011 and submit a request

If your rights are insuffficient, maybe you should right-click on the executable and Run As Administrator, could also be a Java problem.

Thank you Leena_L and Tapsa Jun 5, 2013

I had the same problem and thanks to your posts I found the hidden processes - it 'only' took me three hours to get Studio working again instead of... three days or something. Kiitos!

On Trados Studio 2011 this problem suddenly appeared when I tried to start it.

At Trados' shortcut I changed privileges to run it only as administrator, and so got Trados again.

I did not uninstall nor re-install any software.

This task took five minutes to do; the idea to change privileges came instantly. Only after I posted here, I read message from colleague Bernard Lieber above.
