Hello,
With an impending deadline, I would like to save my 9,600-word translation as a Word file - but alas, another error popped up that says, "Failed to save to target language. An error occurred during a call to extension function 'moveToNextSibling'. See InnerException for a complete description of the error."
Any idea how to fix that? This is not the first time I've had problems saving my Trados 2009 projects, and were it not for some features that trump Wordfast, ... See more Hello,

Any idea how to fix that? This is not the first time I've had problems saving my Trados 2009 projects, and were it not for some features that trump Wordfast, I would happily return to using my former CAT of choice.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If so, search for any missing tags in your translation - configure the QA checker in your project to search for all tags.
If not, then please try to use Word 2007 as source format or try to recreate Word file in Word itself. Then translate the new one from TM.

But sometimes it simply doesn't help to check for missing/misplaced tags ...
I have sometimes had problems because of the name of the file (in that case, save it under a different name and reprocess with your TM).
I have had texts where Trados mentioned an error code, but did not link any particular location to the error, in those cases I export the TM and reprocess the whole project with Trados 2007. That usually does the job.

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried copying the Word file and renaming it, then running the TM again, but that didn't help. Since I also had a PDF version of the source file, I ended up running the TM one more time using the PDF file. That worked. Of course, I had to spend an hour or so formatting the translated file.

Imagine if I had Toyota with a stuck accelerator pedal. I wonder if Toyota would suggest I simply shut off the engine, buy a big anchor for my car and toss it out the window whenever the gas pedal got stuck, or tell me to tear the vehicle apart and fix it myself (or call the dealer with my credit card handy so someone can tell me how to fix it).

SDL is not Toyota. And more parts are involved here - due to so many specific PC configurations and Word file structures, not always following the standard. What does not work properly here seems to be the Word filter. And you can rest assured, that this filter will be developed further. However ther will never be a certinity, that no error will happen.
In the meantime however you could check you accelerator pedal before starting the car, ehm... pardon me, check the behaviour of the software upfront. This is not the first time I recommend to do a test and try to save the target file before you start translating. Simply pick two-three sentences in the file, translate those and try to save target. If it works, you know that unless you produce an error the target file will be written. Otherwise you will be able to deal with the problem in other way - but you will have the necessary time, as you are at the project start now, not at the end.

One workaround that does not mess with your tags is the following:
1) open your WOrd file in Word
2) Choose "Save as" Rich File Type (RTF)
3) Reload with RTF in Trados and pre-translate it with your existing TM.
4) Save as Target..
It should work.

I think RTF, technically, is more forgiving in terms of format, than Word. So if something is wrong, RTF will save it anyway, but Word won´t.
