A mandamus is an order to a public agency or governmental body to perform an act required by law when it has neglected or refused to do so. A person may petition for a writ of mandamus when an official has refused to fulfill a legal obligation, such as ordering an agency to release public records.

"The Limited Courts are, perhaps, the courts that most Arizona citizens are aware of. Sometimes also referred to as a Lower Courts, they are so named because of their limited jurisdictions. In other words, state law defines and limits the types of cases that can be heard in these courts. The Arizona Limited Court System is made up of the Justice of the Peace Courts, and the City Municipal Courts. They handle minor traffic violations, minor crimes, and some civil matters."
