Iraí R. Freire has been a free-lance
translator since 1995. She holds a First Certificate degree in English
(Cambridge University, 1993). She started her career working for the Maritime
Museum of Ushuaia, Argentina (Spanish > English). She graduated as a
literary, technical, and scientific translator (language pair: English <>
Spanish) from Lenguas Vivas “Sofía E. B. de Spangenberg" (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
in 2000. She was admitted to the Argentine Association of Translators and
Interpreters (AATI) in 2001 and remained a member until 2014. She is now an active member of the Associação Brasileira de Tradutores
(ABRATES). She graduated as a journalist from
Taller, Escuela, Agencia (TEA) in Buenos Aires in 1993. As a staff member with "La Maga,
noticias de cultura" (magazine - culture news), she started writing
articles on health topics (1993/1998). In 2000 and 2001, she worked as an
off-site contributor with Salutia.com (site on health and fitness) associated
with CNN en Español. She was hired as the off-site Spanish Editor of ADAM's
Health Illustrated Encyclopedia (HIE) - MedlinePlus (2002 - 2016). Between 2003 and 2014, she worked with
ISI Trans (California) translating mainly health (including Children’s
hospitals materials) and retirement insurance materials and some
environment-related projects (California). Since January 2013, she has been living
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, so she has started translating from PT Brazil into
Spanish and English. At present, she is translating mainly
for the healthcare sector involving projects targeted at the Spanish-speaking
community in the U.S.A.,
a major process technology (pulp & paper) provider based in Finland, and a
major work-life balance and employee assistance programs services provider
(HH.RR.) based in the UK serving global companies. |
