ledge of the flange Explanation: http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=1994027868 "PACKAGING SYSTEMS FOR INCREASED FOOD PRODUCT SHELF LIFE Abstract: A tray having a peripheral flange with one or more raised ledges to secure a pair of membranes to enclose the tray. A lower membrane may be attached to a first ledge of the flange. An upper membrane may be attached to a second ledge or a recessed lip of the flange without connection to the lower membrane, except through the tray. The two attachment surfaces may be separated by a trough or by being positioned on different levels to facilitate trimming of the upper membrane in a continuous manufacturing process. A method and apparatus for modified atmosphere packaging uses a rotary conveyor to transport a plurality of trays to be packaged between a plurality of stations in a circular arrangement. wear ring Explanation: I'm quite certain this is the wear ring (a.k.a. 'wear plate,' 'wear flange') that's found in some pumps - in particular centifugal ones. The translation talks about measuring the position of these 'flanges,' because moving them slightly improves or reduces the efficiency of a pump significantly. These 'plates' or 'rings' can be replaced when they are worn out. "Wear rings: Wear ring provides an easily and economically renewable leakage joint between the impeller and the casing. [If the]clearance becomes too large the pump efficiency will be lowered causing heat and vibration problems. Most manufacturers require that you disassemble the pump to check the wear ring clearance and replace the rings when this clearance doubles." [source http://www.cheresources.com/centrifugalpumps3.shtml ] Definitions wear v. damage or destroy or suffer damage or destruction by friction or use wear n. damage sustained from continuous use [source OED] wear plate A replaceable steel insert that fits inside the volute or suction cover of a pump. Helps to form a vacuum with the impeller and reduce the cost of replacement parts. [Pump Selection Handbook, see Web reference 1 below] 'wear' is a synonym for the 'beating' (battuta) the pump part endures Translation wear s. logorio, consumo, usura; wear and tear, deterioramento fisico, logorio, logoramento [source La Biblioteca di Republica's l'Enciclopedia Dizionario di Italian-Inglese] Example sentence(s):
