baby langoustine

In my experience eating them, a cigala in Spain is a langoustine in other places. Use google images and look at the pictures. You will see that a cigala and langoustine are the same creature. A crawfish in my experience usually refers to a river crawfish which is quite different from a cigala or cigalita. If you look at the images you will see that a crawfish does not look the same. There are ocean crawfish which DO look like a cigala /langoustine. But I don't thing we usually refer to them that way.

In Spain a langostino is type of big shrimp with no claws. A cigala is a langoustine in english and in french, I do believe.

I do eat cigalitas on a regular basis and they are little cigalas, and again cigalas in my experience are langoustines.

Note that the name in english on the picture of the cigala is Norway Lobster and langousine in french. In my experience they are always called a langoustine on an english menu.

No doubt you are 100% right, but this is not zoology, it is a menu for the pais vasco, and although I know Norway lobster is a good translation as I noted above, I don't remember ever seeing it on a menu, and I spend a LOT of time in restaurants.
agree Almudena Grau : I think that when translating for a menu, we should consider marketing and appeal, as well as accuracy. I think this a good option. Ronnie seems to know her cigalas! Or cigalitas! :) Oh, and crawfish are what you eat in New Orleans...sweet water.

Little Norway lobsters

Cigalas and cigalitas seem to be two different species though seafood is always difficult. Cigala is a Norwegian lobster (among other names) and cigalita is according to Wikipedia a mud lobster.
