Le programme du congrès est toujours en discussion et vous pouvez d’ailleurs proposer vos idées/envies sur ce forum. Si vous souhaitez animer une formation, merci d'envoyer un e-mail aux organisateurs.

Merci !

The conference program is still under development but you may make suggestions in this forum. If you would like to run a session, please e-mail the organizers.

Thanks !

I would like to present a paper on the above title in the ensuing Translation Conference 2008 at France.

Terminology and Adaptation are two topics that are relevant to any kind of translation. The kind of target or source language doesn't matter at all. This is because of the fact that terminologies evolve from the very basis of the source language and it is important to convey the right meaning of that word into the target language.

Adaptation is also coming up very fast because there is research and discoveries everywhere in every corner of the world. Sometimes the research or discovery is so unique that it is difficult to find an equivalent in the target language.

Where are we today and where must we really be!

Training suggestions Jun 9, 2008

Dear John,
I would like to suggest trainings in specialised translation fields (for example, financial, legal, etc.) Most of the trainings offered to translators are about CAT tools, and it seems difficult to find specialised workshops on a particular theme rather than the tools or methodology of translations.
I hope this will be an option for this conference or for other training offers!
Best regards
Muriel Mattiussi - TransLangues

Thanks for your suggestion Muriel. We had a legal theme last year but this year we'd like to focus on QC. I recommend that you look at the SFT's website; they offer specialized trainings often. There is a financial translation event in July in Brussels and a legal event in September in Paris.

Tourisme Jul 16, 2008

Bonjour,

Merci d'avance.

Conference program? Aug 1, 2008

Dear John,

Do you have a tentative conference program? It's hard to know which day (Friday, Saturday, or both) is best to sign up for without knowing what's on the program.

Thanks!

DNS? Aug 8, 2008

Hi John,
Any possibility drumming up someone to show/instruct DNS for those of us who are curious but not sure if it'll work for us?
thanks,
Natalia

Hi Natalia,
Thanks for your post. Unfortunately, we've finalized the program and people have already signed up. It's going to be difficult to add/change things around at this point. I'll try to get in touch with someone at DNS to see if they want to sponsor the conference and present their product at a stand (during coffee breaks, etc.). In any event, the sessions are more geared towards a training format as opposed to the presentation/demonstration ones we've had in the past.

If you're a member of the SFT, you might suggest this as a theme for a regional meeting. I went to one last spring and Wolfgang Schoene showed us how MemoQ works. Or maybe someone could organize a ProZ powwow "demo and dinner"!

Hope you are enjoying your summer, see you soon!

Choice: Saturday 11.00 to 12.30 Sep 19, 2008

Hello John,

I know you've already finalised the programme, but I have a problem with it that I imagine must be shared by others.

I want to go to the Wordfast QA workshop from 9.00-10.30 Saturday - what do I do after the break? I don't use Trados and anyway I think two QA workshops back-to-back might be a bit indigestible. My only alternative, apart from doing nothing, is to gatecrash on one of the other sessions that started at 9.00 am - I really don't like doing that

Would it be possible to lay on something in the Salle Girafe that appears to be available though unused?

Looking forward to the conference and seeing Paris again.

The farmer, the son and the donkey... Sep 19, 2008

Hi Sheila,

Thanks for your post. We decided to make the CAT tool sessions shorter and add something to the program in the morning for more choice. We still might make one more change to the afternoon program (maybe combining Susanne's and Dominique's session or adding another 1.5 hour session...). These will be the last changes and they should have settled by next week. After that we won't be able to make anymore changes (if you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one!).

Unfortunately, the salle giraffe is the break and lunch room so we won't be able to set up a conference room in it.

I think there will be quite a few gatecrashers, you could maybe team up with a Trados fan, take notes, switch during the break and fill each other in during lunch!

Looking forward to seeing you again and hearing all about your latest motorcycle adventures (motorcycles or cars? I forget)!

Best,

John
