Hi all,
I've started working freelance this year, translating from Russian and French to English. I'm putting together a portfolio for potential clients, and I've already got permission to include a couple of my Russian-English jobs. I'm putting together a portfolio for potential clients, and I've already got permission to include a couple of my Russian-English jobs. However, the entirety of my French-English experience comes from an in-house job I had with one company. I've tried to reach out to my former manager by email (which appears to have been deleted), LinkedIn (no reply), the company website (page not found) and finally through the sister company's site (no reply).
It's been months now, and I'm starting to wonder if the company is still operational. I always ask permission before including projects in my portfolio, so it's a bit of an unfortunate situation. However, since the work I did for the company has already been published, I was wondering if I could include a link in my portfolio to the published work without actually including extracts in the portfolio itself? This wouldn't exactly be ideal, but it would at least show that I have experience in this language pair while I build up a better portfolio.
Any advice/thoughts would be very welcome! ▲ Collapse

Of course, you would then use agency testimonials for other agencies,

Thanks for your reply. It wasn't a translation agency I was working for, but a publishing company. They were translating their own publications. I'm not sure if that makes a difference?
As far as proving I'm the translator, I obviously don't have any hard proof I'm the Ciaran Traynor who translated it, which is obviously the case even for the texts in my portfolio. However, my name is in the publications I'm referring to - I'm credited as the translator alongside the original author.

I’m not specialised in copyright but AFAIK if you are credited alongside the original author this should be enough and you don’t need any further authorization…

That's what I was thinking. So a link at least would be fine then, but I wouldn't be able to post the source text in my portfolio since I don't have permission for that. Thanks for your input!
