Hello to everyone,
I am starting my career as freelance translator and I have specific education on Software, mobile apps and video games localisation. I also have working experience as an IT technician using my working languages (EN and DE and I am a Spanish native speaker.)
By the moment, most of the jobs I have received are editing, MTPE and proofreading of e-commerce Webs selling technology products.
I am considering to learn a new language as I have realized that the pair DE-ES is better paid than EN-ES. Although it's a very personal decision to invest time and effort in learning a new language to your working pairs, would you learn Italian or Dutch? I have already some knowledge of both languages learning on my own. Both are very easy to learn for me, since I am a Spanish native speaker and I have got a high level in German.
What do you think taking into account usual rates, offer and demand?
There are much more Italian speakers around the world than the Dutch ones and the last ones usually speak English quite well, whereas the Italian don't usually speak English.
In addition, I think there are many more IT into ES translators than NL into ES translators.
I would appreciate any advice.
Thank you a lot and have a nice weekend. ▲ Collapse

My advice? Instead of focusing on rates and offer and demand (these are always going to be variables that we can’t control) I would say go for the one you like the most. We spend so many hours working day in day out that we should at least enjoy what we are doing.

If I were you, I should learn Dutch to take advantage of your high level in German knowledge. Congratulations for such love to languages!

I suggest Italian

Being you a native speaker of Spanish you will be able to learn Italian very quickly, regarding Dutch, it can also be a good choice, but phonetic is not easy.
This is my piece of advice
