Es luminoso y moderno para contrastar con las **imágenes siempre coloniales y tenues** del país donde preside xxx."

xxx = nombre del presidente

Se muestran imágenes de un edificio moderno y luminoso en otro país, que contrasta con los edificios coloniales y la luz tenue usados para presentar el país donde se centra el desarrollo de la película.

...of the country where xxx rules.

"Tenue" here probably does not mean "dimly lit" or "blurry, hazy" but rather "lacking in vivid color" (in contrast to the modern images from the other country).

I also prefer "scenery" to "images" or "landscape".

Just a thought.

I think "dull" captures both "siempre" and "tenues."

It's not just the scenery; the whole concept is old-fashioned and unimaginative, down to little pieces of typical "business" reflected in the props, etc. So I have no problem with "colonial images" (872 references).
