Hi,

Does anyone else have a problem about their web site being automatically translated by Google? I only just discovered that it is happening to my web site. Hi,

Does anyone else have a problem about their web site being automatically translated by Google? I only just discovered that it is happening to my web site. I have two web sites, one in English, and one in German. I only today by chance discovered that, when a person in the UK accesses my German web site, they automatically get a Google translation, instead of the German text I created. As I am a German-English translator, and a native speaker of English, my advertising point is that I can produce natural-sounding translations into English. However, anyone accessing my site in the UK must think that I cannot speak English, as the following excerpt illustrates:

"Sometimes it goes uphill, if one looks for a reliable and also fast translation.

With us however - at least if it concerns mark or Domainsachen - exists no problem. The translation is prepared carefully and exactly by a native speaker, as well as correction-read by another native speaker.

Because the translation represents marks, Domainnamen as well as e-Commerce a specialist area specialized by documents within the ranges, experienced specialists are necessary in these ranges. We work with specialized programs, and have our own terminology data bases, which developed from year-long experiences. Our emphasis is in the case of translations between German and English, other languages is however possible, in particular European languages.

If you sich mit us in connection to set liked, click simply on the Link contact on the left side. They reach themselves then fast a highly-qualified translator, that on the ranges marks, Domainnamen sowie e Commerce spezialisiert."

Is there any way to stop this happening - and fast?

Astrid

Hello Astrid,

I am not too sure I understand your problem. Please forgive me if my advice is of no use.

However, I assume that you are referring to the "Translate this site" option that appears next to a search result in Google.
I am afraid, there is nothing you can do about that. My opinion is that users who choose to use this link are well aware that they'll be confronted with a machine translation which isn't perfect.

You mentioned that you have a separate German translation for your site. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find the link that points to the German content. It might be useful to make some changes to your pages to give visitors some help in finding the German content. It may also help potential clients who google your page because they may be directly directed to the appropriate language.

HTH.

Hello Sonja,

Thanks for your answer. Yes, there is a "translate this page" option sometimes, in the Google hit list.

Hello Sonja,

I have two web sites, one English and one German, but they have different domain names. The web site in question (www.trademarktranslator.com) is only written in German. I was told by someone who tried to access it today from the UK that they could not view it, because an English translation "appeared automatically". If this always happens, then another viewer might not know that it is a machine translation provided by Google, but think that I had originally written it that way - for example, if they did not know that it was supposed to be in German.

not here (and I'm also in the UK) Mar 25, 2005

Hi Astrid,

I have just googled for your German page from google.co.uk and when I clicked on the link it appeared correctly in German.
I don't know if Google has any options to set a default language and autotranslate whatever it finds. I've never heard of it really...

Cheers,
Grace.

I've just checked... Mar 25, 2005

"www.trademarktranslator.com". No problems for me there, that is: no automatic Google translation. I was accessing the site from Italy, though and I use Firefox, not IE.

Maybe others could have a quick check for you on it, too. At least, in this way you would know if it's a general problem or only related to that particular customer and his browser settings or access from certain countries.

Happy Easter!

No such thing Mar 26, 2005

Hello Astrid,

I tried to find out what the reason might be. I changed my IE settings to "British English", re-started my machine and opened your website. No problem - it came automatically in German. No automatic translation into English.

There is only possibility to get this automatic translation...and this does not work if you don't click on the link.

Best regards,
Kerstin

Thank you, everyone, for checking Mar 26, 2005

Hello,

Thank you all for checking it out for me, from the country that you are in. Obviously there is not a general problem, so I do not need to worry about it.

A Happy Easter to you all!

Astrid
