The allantois arises as a diverticulum of the yolk sac extending from the early foetal bladder into the body stalk and contributes to umbilical vessel development. Regression of the allantois occurs between the 6th and 8th weeks of gestation and the remnant is located between the two arteries within the cord. Zależnie od grubości podściółki tłuszczowej może on być silniej lub słabiej wpuklony w obręb ściany brzucha.
